I've just pulled the plug on our trip to Watkins Glen. I really wanted to get out and see the fall foliage, have a decent trip that was more than driving around aimlessly for a couple of hours. The weather forecast, for what was supposed to be an "outside" weekend of vintage car racing, stopped making sense when it turned into below freezing temperatures and rain every day. They didn't actually say "snow" but when I see temps in the 20's and rain in the forecast, I can connect the dots... Oh well. We've had below freezing temps in Dundas for several nights now, so I winterized the water system last weekend anyway.
I still hope to get down to Myrtle Beach and Savannah for a week or so in December before I put it to bed for the winter for good. My track record this summer is pretty poor...

hey brian, walked out of a class this eve in Buffalo at 4:30 and it was snowing lightly..I hate winter !
Brian, South of you and Traveling and the snow is on the trees and grass. Forecast 6 inches or more, good idea on your part to miss it. Tom Y
Wow, I thought it but I was hoping it wouldn't happen. No snow in my yard yet, but five miles east got some. I'm changing gears, had today booked off work anyway so I am going out to the shop and start cleaning up the accumulated junk of six months of neglect so that I can start assembling the race engine I took apart to rebuild in April (bought the bus in May, maybe there is a connection?).
Cheers, Brian
Driving through snow in a bus sucks. About 10 days ago we drove through a snow storm in Utah and Wyoming. We were right behind the storm, but we still felt the full brunt of it. It was pretty slippery and so foggy we could barely see at times. It was really fun coming down the grade on I80 eastbound east of Salt Lake City.
At times we were going 25 MPH, but getting passed at times by semis go 50 or 60 MPH. We did pass by at least one semi on its side along with a number of other accidents.
We eventually stopped for a bit to allow things to clear up. Being from Minnesota, we never expected a full blown winter storm the first week of October. The event we go to is possibly going to be in august next year so the chances of snow will be minimal if that happens.
Ah Barffalo NY! I have a love hate relationship with it. Out of all the places I have been, I would move b ack in a heartbeat. If it was not for winter. Shortly after I moved my bus in a hanger, we got like 4 feet of snow in 10 minutes. They shut down the thruway, my friend was stuck on it for 12 hours. When he got to the toll both they wanted to charge him a toll!! ONly in NY.
Brian, if you get down to Myrtle Beach and find yourself near Charlotte, NC, feel free to park for a few. We got an all weather place to park a coach...and trailer if you pull one. Just off Hwy, 74. Or I-485 South of Charlotte.
You'll think it's downright balmy down here. Those guys at Lowes Motor Speedway wouldn't share that concept. They're freezing their butts off out there. Seems every big race week, the weather goes to sucky.
It ain't gonna freeze at Myrtle Beach for a while.

Thank you for the offer, and when and if the time comes, we will keep it in mind! Our normal routine is to take two days to get to myrtle beach, stay at the state park south of town and walk the beach for a few days to mellow out, then take a nice half day drive down to the race track, which is north of Savannah. the park is deserted at that time of year, it's kind of "would you like the entire infield, half of the eastern road by the beach, or the entire west camp to yourself this week?"
