But I thought that I would ask anyways.
Does anybody have any ideas how Peter Pan locked the steerable tag axle? I am going to start troubleshooting it, and I am going to get it working again.
I doubt that anybody will have any leads, but I just wanted to make sure. I am going to try my hand at calling Peter Pan, and seeing if I can talk to somebody in the shop, and see if they know how they usually locked them (who knows whether I will get anywhere).
If anybody has ANY ideas, I would be grateful.
God bless,
John
Maybe he jammed Tinkerbell into the steering gear. Solved two problems at once!
Sorry. That's probably not helpful. ::)

I thought He was a little light on His feet to be working on a bus! Sorry You asked for it! John
But the fuel mileage when he was driving was terrific! ;D
Thank, guys. I am off to a great start ::). At least I now know where to start ;D :D ;D.
I called Peter Pan this morning. It was very nice. I talked with their fleet manager. He asked me what our coach number was, and I told him. He says, "Oh, yes. That one. A DL3, right? It had a S60 in it, and B500 tranny. It was a 95, right?" They sold it a little over two years ago. He remembered it! I got more info from him, about that bus, then Bobby ever said. This guy said that it had a new tranny in it, and that the engine had new injectors, etc. He said that he didn't remember about the tag steering in it, but they don't lock them.
He said that they traded it off, because of the AC problems (just what I thought. Gee thanks, Bobby. He told us it worked great, and we did buy it in the winter....glug ;D.) I told him that we took it out, and just use the roof airs, and he said that was a good idea. Really it worked out well, taking the OTR air out because we needed that space anyways.
So that's the update.
God bless,
John
So ,,,,if they did not lock it,,,, how are you going to UNlock it??>>>Dan
John -
IIRC, MCI's steerable tag locking system is controlled electrically. It locks into place once the vehicle's speed reaches about 15 - 20 mph, or when the transmission is shifted into reverse.
So, there's a clue for you - time to get out the VOM and schematics!
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
Walla Dan, I am going to start by reinstalling the switch ;D. I knew that there wasn't a switch, there, but I was amazed that the two wires were still there (I figured that they would have been cut). So anyways, I called my buddy at MCI, and he looked it up, and turns out those were the correct two wires for that switch. Methinks that good old Bobby needed a switch, so he had Junior harvest it.
The switch is the first step. Then I can move farther down the line. My guess is that there will be more troubles with it, but we will see. I have already replaced various parts to the system. The one thing I haven't changed out is the speed switch. I don't know whether that is still good or not, but I will find out. I also need to double check that the output is still plugged into the back of the speedo, that goes to the speedswitch.
RJ, Thanks for the post. Confirmed what I thought. I thought, from reading the manual, that it could still caster in reverse, but it would caster in the right direction. However, I wasn't reading carefully, and I could have completely missed it (which I wouldn't be surprised if I did completely miss something).
Thanks a lot.
God bless,
John
