On checking the rear end oil Level I find the person has rounded of the ID of the plug. Any one have any ideas? I hate to start drilling in this area.

Also on checking the tag axle drum and brake, the same guy has over size shoes and a drum they have machined out that you can stick your finger between the new looking shoes and the ID of the drum. Also the S-cam bushing are shot. (this was both sides)

The things some of these bus companies do to patch instead of repairing right.

PS And I know there are great bus companies that look after there buses. I have a 4104 from Hotard in Gramesy Louisiana that has been a jewel from the day I got it ( 24 years ago) Not one loose s-cam, no  drum or shoe problems everything works.

Not sure exactly what you have for a plug (or access) but can you hold a nut against it and weld inside the nut?

If it used to be a square recess and unless it is totally rounded out, you may be able to grind a bit of flat bar so you can tap it in across the diagonal.

John, I think I would re-clock the slack adjuster and see if that will bring it into spec. I'm not certain the tags were set up with OD drums. Let's not overthink stuff until we have a chance to really look at it and beat on it with a hammer.
Get it up in the air, do some reclocking and judge from there. Normally, even with OD drums and standard shoes, you can't put your finger in the space.

I reclocked the slack adjuster, and ran it all the way out with the arm of the diaframe. It closes the space all the way but just does not close enough for the brake shoes to get a hold of the inside of the drum. I have a set of standard pads and a drum that is standard (remember) so I am going to put new pads on and see how the standard drum fits.
