Title: Texas Bus Roundup This Week Oct. 15-18th !
Post by: Dreamscape on October 12, 2009, 06:40:27 AM
This is our third annual event, and it appears it will have the largest gathering of coaches so far.

We are going to have a real Texas Style BBQ with all the trimmings on Friday night, a super duper breakfast by Ronnie who cooked the BBQ the night before, a Chili feed by BigJohn and Blu on Saturday night and did I say great food!

If you are in the area of Eisenhower State Park in Denison TX, stop by the Cedar Hollow Area and you'll see a few Flx's, a Scenic Cruiser, a few GM's, some MCI's, a Wanderloge and of course the Eagles! Around 24 in all, with maybe a few late comers. We will also have some wannabees floating around drooling at all the pretties.

The weather forecast is great! Highs in the upper 60's to lower 70's, nights in the upper 40's to lower 50's, and no rain in site! (sorry Christy)  ;) Good night temps for the Fireside Chat!

Sonnie Gray is going to go through what he did to install the Cat in his Eagle, a marvelous feat of engineering. Otherwise, we'll just kick back, jack our jaws and have some fun!

This rally is dedicated to the memory of Patti Gray, Sonnie's wife who passed away late last year. God Bless you Sonnie!

So round em up, gather your duds and head out for a really good time y'all.

Happy Trails,

Paul

For those interested I will hold a short seminar on posting pictures on this board and Eagles International. I figure I'll do it Saturday morning around 10 am.

Bring your laptop and camera, it will make it much easier if you work through as I demonstrate.

It really is very simple, you just have to go through the motions and you'll be a whiz! ;)

We already have a couple of busnuts in the area of Sherman and Denison waiting for the festivities to begin.

For those of you who have not yet paid for the arrival BBQ or the meals by Ronnie, I will gladly take your monies! You must wear your nametag during meal times so we know you have paid for the meals. Name tags will be issued Thursday after we arrive and setup, most likely around noon or shortly thereafter.

I will have some copies of the Bus Conversion Magzine that the gang in charge sent me. (Thanks Guys) Along with that you will be able to sign up to receive the monthly issues. See me for more information if you are interested.

Schedule is as follows: (We might slightly change the meal times, we'll let you know.)

Bring your preferred beverages to each meal

Thursday - Arrival BBQ with hamburgers and hotdogs - 6 pm

TBR Welcome and Greetings after BBQ

Friday -     Donuts every morning at 7 am, except Saturday, bring your own coffee as we don't have a large traveling coffee maker.

Sonnie Gray holding a Show and Tell on his CAT re-power - 10 am

Texas Style BBQ by Ronnie - 6 pm

Saturday - Breakfast by Ronnie - 8 am

Picture Posting Seminar - 10 am

Saturday - Chili Feed by Big John and Blu - 6 pm

Sunday - Break Camp and head home or where ever your destination is. :(

See Ya there,

Paul

I don't understand they say the 24th is my last day but they can't do with out me friday and or saturday of this week.  I don't know how things are going to be any different next week.

If you go up 20 to 820 around ft. Worth you will see my bus it is still setting in front of Cowser tire between hwy 156 and Mark 4 parkway on the south side of the road.

How are you looking for fire wood this year?

I need stud piloted.  I acutally have a set of hub piloted wheels that the guy who sold me the bus gave to me. At the time I did not verify that they were the correct ones, and did not realize it until I was ready to use them.  So if anyone needs a set of hub piloted aluminum, wheels I have 6

Will I get run out of the camp ground if I show up in a school bus?  I may not have any choice if I can't get the bus ready.  I started it yesterday and the alt is not working and it has only been on there for about an hour of run time.  I might have wired it up back wards the first time I put it on.  I am not sure it worked ater that.

Bob,

Just get here when you can, we'll keep the light on for ya! Firewood would be nice, whatever you can bring. It's going to be cool enough this year to enjoy it! I would think you have stud piloted, but who knows for sure, if you have a stud with a square end you have stud piloted. That's so you can tighten down the inner before you install the outer on a set of duals. Hub piloted you just slap them on and torque 'em.

Doug,

Are you going to bring the wheels with you? If not maybe you could post the exact dimensions, someone might be interested.

We arrived late last night, about midnight. It seems the spaces are full, first time for that. We do have one available as one couple could not make it. Let me know upon arrival if they say all spots are taken. I'm going to the park office and check in this morning, I'll let them know.

Make sure you tell them you are with The Texas Bus Roundup at Cedar Hollow Group Area. We'll find a spot for any latecomers, we might have to double up on the pedestals though.

It's gonna be a good one!

Paul

Our 24th coach rolled in late last night, with maybe 1 or 2 coming in today. The weather has been much better this year, especially yesterday, bright and sunny.

We have 4 GM's, 8 MCI's, 4 Flxible's, 7 Eagles and one Prevost. I'll post more specific information after we arrive back home and get the information/pictures sorted out.

This is a beautiful 1947 Flxible Clipper, one of four Flixible's from the Flixible Owners Club.

David and John,

The Flxible belongs to Richard & Bernice Quisenberry from Marietta OK. They are part of the Flxible Club that had 4 coaches here this year. You should see the inside, very well done with a Route 66 theme. I'm not sure if they are members here or not. I handed out the magazines that "The Gang" sent me and spoke of the new owners, you might see some new members pretty soon. I think next year we'll have a bunch of them show up to join in the fun.

We had the 26th coach show up yesterday afternoon, a 4104 from Sherman TX. It looks like we've outgrown this site and will be looking for a bigger place for next year. We've already started making plans to coincide with the Eagle rally in Branson, and Christy and Larry Hicks rally in Carthage Missouri, we're going for three rally's back to back in a 2 week span.

We all got full on BigJohns and Blu's chili last night along with desserts provided by the attendees. We sure know how to eat!

Here is a shot of Bob & Sandi Gilbert's Eagle with a fresh paint job.

We're all heading out today, it is sad time when we have to break camp. We've had a great time this year, doubled in size from previous years, many new faces and coaches. It just keeps getting bigger and better every year.

Man I sure wish I could have made it to the rally.  I am on call for the third week in a row.  I am not griping though, the company across the street from my office had a 1500 person layoff.  If they want me to work another year of on call I would do it.  I just really wanted to go to this rally.

On another note.  What would it take to host a rally.  I have a small place between Houston and San Antonio that was my folks place handed down.  It is out in the sticks where nobody would bother us.  There is plenty of wood for a fire, plenty of cooking wood.  The only thing it does not have would be electrical hook ups.  We have water but the electrical capacity could not sustain even one bus let alone 50.  There is a pond for fishing.  The place is about 80 acres.  It has a big BBQ pit that can do about 11 briskets at a time.  I got a big bean pot that can make enough beans to feed an army.  We could have a fish fry!!!

If this were to happen there my folks, God rest them, would be proud of that.  Their dreams were to get on a bus and go.  40 years of raising children and I was the last.  They were just about to go and things went south for them.  I believe that is why at so young of an age I bought a bus.  I want to go!  I don't want to get caught in a fix later in life and not be able to go.  My wife and I are going all the way to Alaska straight up the Alaskan Hwy, the first day I retire.  7 years and counting.  We intend to do a reverse snowbird.  It is so freakin hot down here all the time we want to escape the heat like the northerners want to escape the cold.  When the spring time snows clear the roadway we will be on it.  We intend to stay until Canada goose season starts then drop down for the opener in Canada.  When that is over we will come home.  Then the next year do it all again.

Oh yes I do tend to ramble on.  The rally, What do yall think?

All you need to do is set a date, give advanced notice, post in on the board, email all of your bus buddies, they'll email their buddies, you get the idea.  ;) Try to set the date so it doesn't interfere with dates for other bus rallies, plan way ahead, sit back and we/they will come.

As far as no electrical hookups, no problem as most of us can boondock, crank up the genset and kill dem skeeters!

Remember, it only takes two buses to have a rally, anymore than that just increases the fun you have and more lies are told.

Sounds like you have a great spot, you just have to let people know you want to hold a rally and it will happen.

Paul

My wife and I talked about it today and we are excited about it.  I am headed to Vegas in late spring so maybe early spring we can set a date.  The only thing that would stop us from doing it is rain.  If it rains we are going to have a long rally because there will be no getting out.  It is bad enough in a regular truck.  You don't bog down it just gets slick.  Anyhow we can do this.  We can BBQ or fry a bunch of fish for Saturday night.

How cold does it get down there? Maybe summer, or winter would be some better when it might not be so wet. I am just thinking that for us, anyways, spring is usually our wettest season.

Just thinking out loud.

God bless,

John

You are right about the spring rains.  Maybe we can plan it for the summer but I have to warn the northern folks, it is hot down here.  Early February is nice though.  It is usually dry early that month and the weather is better than the smokin hot summer.

The weather is like a crap shoot in Texas, you never know what you are going to get until you get it!

You just have to plan for the best possible weather history and go for it, if it rains and gets muddy maybe have a plan B location. We really lucked out this year, last two years we held it in September, very hot and sometimes muggy or getting the leftovers from a hurricane.

Remember, last weekend at Christy's Jersey Roundup it was cold and rainy, then we have beautiful weather the next week, you never know.

Whatever happens it's all good, we bus folk now how to have a good time regardless!

Paul, Brenda here.  Can you send to our e-mail address an e-mail with all of e-mail addresses for TBR.  I thought I picked up a sheet that everyone signed.  We aren't on it, I think we must have missed it, I got one, can't find it, so I am not sure it is TBR but feel like it is.  Alot of good it does me if I can't find.

Chuck and I worked on my/our e-mail Saturday and I lost some of my addresses.  My fault, not Chucks.  Thanks for all for all of the help Chuck.

Thanks,
BB

Here's one I have to share, it was sent to me by Brenda Britt and Mike Crouch (Sanity Fix).

Their nephew did a few fly by's, great picture for someone zipping by in a nice fast little plane.

I about fell off my chair when I saw it, what a shot!

I agree. Nice pic.

Did he buzz you, or just fly over?

God bless,

John

Paul,

That is neat. I know what you mean. It doesn't take much to occupy us simple folk. It takes even less then a flyover to keep me occupied ;D. Yesterday it was a big frog. You should have seen how much meat was on those legs ;D

God bless,

John

Great Rally Paul,

I wish I could have gone.  I would have set up somewhere on US 75 with a UT flag waving at all the OU fans heading back home.  Go, Horns, Go.

I live east of Dallas/Fort Worth and wear a Vols hat all the time.  No one so far as realized my secret.  LoL

It sure seemed like fun was had by all, I sure spent a lot of time gathering ideas how to finish my bus.

Cody, I dont' think it was an eagle as there was no red dust in it's wake.  ;)

The copilot was my 10 year old nephew, Garrett.  He was in 7th heaven, flying with his dad and seeing all of the busses.  He loves our bus and really likes our little trips.
The camera crew was in the back.  They got down to about 1,000 ft, pulled some G's and low and behold, the camera crew got a little sick.
My nephew was in our area for his birthday, this was the only way I got to see him.  Great birthday for him, he was in his plane doing his thing with his kids and great day for us.  I thought the picture was a super shot and kind of him to go out of his way, take it, download and email.  He lives about three hours away from us.

Enjoy~~~~

I agree, it was great watching them buzz us and it was even better seeing the parking lot from that vantage.  It gives a great reference for all those who made it to TBR.  I hope you have told your son how much the picture is appreciated.  =)

I think we need a T-Shirt that says "Flying High at TBR" with that picture on it! ;D
