Well, we're on our way home from the Jersey Roundup after saying our fond farewells to old and new friends :'( :(.
We did have a great time ;D, as always, even though we first nearly drowned >:(, and then froze our butts off! :D We had a pretty good storm come through Wednesday and Thursday, dumping loads of rain, so Larry and I picked up a portable canopy to set outside the bus. Well, in a lull, Gloria Gilbert joined us in attempting to set it up without getting soaked. We DID get it up and we DID get soaked, ha ha. It's funny how that rain can pick up so quickly as soon as you're in the middle of doing something outside! :D
After we pretty much had the work done, Gloria's hubby, Larry G., strolled over to see if he could help. . he did. . he gave Gloria and I a huge laugh when he decided to tug on a section of the roof to dump some water. . he did dump the water quite successfully RIGHT DOWN ON TOP OF MY LARRY, WHO WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TARP, ATTEMPED TO STAKE IT DOWN. Little did Larry G. know, but he actually thwarted my Larry's attempt to stake that tarp down THROUGH GLORIA'S SHOE! :D :D :D Bob Gilbert had to come over to see what all the ruckus was about, because Gloria and I laughed so loud at our two Larrys we alerted 1/2 the park I think! Obviously, rain or not, this was GOING to be fun ;D. There we all spent the evening, relaxing under a drippy canopy, read the words "water resistant". . . that does NOT mean water proof! ;) (my Larry actually retrieved and used an umbrella since we had managed to place HIS chair underneath the leakiest seam). Seriously, we didn't plan it that way. . seriously! ;) ;)
The rain did move out on Friday, as bus people moved on in, and we were glad to meet the Stuebs and their charming children, along with the Wilkersons and Reimers. Of course, we had the regulars. . .a couple of Gilberts brothers & their MUCH BETTER halves, the Rubys, Richard Olsen and the Halloways. We did miss one visitor. . . I'm thinking maybe it was Larry Nelson? who stopped by in the morning while we were gone, if so, sorry we didn't get to meet you this time around. . . come back next year with your coach and join us. . same time same place, ha ha. It's too bad a couple of attendees had to bow out at the last minute, but we understand and hope you see you guys next year!
A new treat for us this year was a visit to the Chrome Shop Mafia Shop in Joplin. . .where they trick out all of those big trucks. . . they had a truck show going on and we got to browse their vast array of "chrome everythings". Of course, Colaws RV Salvage got a few sheckles from us, as did the Apple Butter Festival, which was bigger than ever. . . so as you can imagine, we stayed busy all weekend.
This WILL be the year we remember as the "hover by the fire" year, as it was pretty darn chilly if you strayed very far away! We all enjoyed Larry's smoked ribs and chicken, as we've done year after year, and of course, all the sides and desserts provided by everyone. .. I ate tooooooo much as always, but, oh well, it sure was good! A big thanks again to The Big Red ABarn for use of their activity building. . the full kitchen and ample space, the tables and chairs, well, it sure makes for a nice evening meal for us! This group is special to our hearts and we hope to see them all again next year! Christy Hicks
Hi Christy,
Glad you all had a whopping great time inspite of the rain and cold. Who knows, maybe next year you'll have a late hurricane to deal with to add to your activities. ;D
You didn't say anything about "Brownies", were they available?
Stay dry and warm,
Paul
Well, yes, of course there were brownies. . except this time they pretty much stayed INSIDE the pan, ha ha. :D
We're doing some figuring to see if we can't slip on down and see you next weekend. .. . guess we'll have to see if Larry has enough fuel in his tank to make it, ha ha. Let me see. . . we'll have 250 miles on that tank. . . HOW far did you say it was to your rally????? ??? Christy Hicks
251 miles! ::)
It's about 180 miles from Mustang OK to Denison, so that tank will get you there. You'll have to figure out how to get back home. Maybe you could sell some brownies! :D
Where there's a will, there's a way! ;D
Well, I figured I'd get a rise out of SOMEONE over that fuel crack ::), but oh well, their loss, my gain. ;)
The good news is ;D. .. well, may be BAD news to some people ???. . . we are planning on attending TBR ;D. We won't get there until Friday evening, but the plan is to be there never the less. . .or is it "better late than never" or something like that.
See you then, Christy Hicks
Very Cool!
I had your names on my list anyway! ;D
See ya Friday!
Paul
