Title: cruise air question for Nick Badame
Post by: ruthi on October 01, 2009, 05:08:46 PM
Hi Nick. We are getting to the stage to start lining up the air we are going to put in our bus. It has to be basement units to keep from getting any taller on the roof. I guess the basement, split air is what we are wanting. We want the 14,000 btu units with the blower evaporator units. Can you tell me what we are looking at for cost for just the purchase of that? I know there is more to it, just getting an idea of how much to put aside for them. You can reply, or pm me. Thanks

Ruthi, if Nick doesn't sell the split units I know a place in Texas you can buy from, are you going to use the touch pad controls.
Better have a place to sit down when Nick gives you the price but they are worth it to me

good luck

What is the place in Texas called? Any idea of what they run? I know they are expensive, but still want to find the best price. I assume you have them? How have they worked out for you? Are they quite, and do you have 2 or 3 units?

Ruthi, lets wait and see if Nick sells the unit if not I will give you the number they will be about the same price no matter where you buy.
I have 3 in my bus a Eagle 2 are mounted in the spare tire compartment that takes care of the living room ,kitchen and bathroom. The other unit is mounted in the old ac compartment it takes care of the bedroom and hall way.
They are quite inside and out and with the different arrangements of the evaporators they have you can mount those about anywhere I have 2 small one in the bedroom with fan controls on each side the fan controls can be set from 0- high no 2 or 3 speed.
Installation is the key for Cruise Air and when you buy make sure they are for land use not for water.
Mine have never gave me a problem one time a guy told me I need freon he put some in and I had a problem with it till Larry Hicks let some freon out of it.

good luck

Hi Ruthi,

I need to know exactly where you will be placing the evaporators/blowers because there are different configurations

to match your needs. "floors, Closets, over refrigs, or in cabinets" The condencers are pretty much the same.

What did you have in mind for placement of both units?

as of now, the condensors will be in basement midway of the bus. The blowers will prob be in floor, and vented to ceiling duct work. Wont hold you to anything, just want to get an idea of cost. Thanks

Hi Ruthi,

Now I have a better idea of what you need. Basement units are what your discribing to me.

First, there are many members on this board that have installed my system design with my help. That is 2- 15,000 btu basement heat pumps

stacked in one corner of one bay, then ducted to a main trunk within your coach. This sounds like the system you are discribing..

This system is defused with 12- 2" hi volosity style registers. It gives you the option of useing either 1, or 2 systems at a time in heat or cool.

The design leaves you with the most quietest system you could have in a bus along with 4 fan speeds and 1 central thormostat.

I will give you pricing later today when I return to my office.

Thanks, a couple more questions. Do these run on 115 volt? How big are the ducts running from the main duct to the registers? I see from the pictures where the cold air is coming out of the unit, but where is the return air coming from? Are these cruise airs?

Nick, has the Dometic production increased since the fire in Mexico?   Are you able to get new units?

Hi Z,

I'm still mobile today on a long road trip [biz related] and I didn't get to call my contacts at Dometic today to find out.

I forgot it's Friday too... I will check on Monday.

Hi Nick, do you have time today to get back with us on these? You can call, if you prefer. Thanks

Hi Ruthi,

I called Dometic today and they confirmed that the Dometic Duotherm Basement units will NOT be Mfg. anymore!

We still have the Tundra truck line that is made in VA. A bit more $$ for the basement [self contained as they call it] unit.

I'm rolling out this morning for a week vacation and I asked Dometic to send me my updated pricing on the Tundra line and

I should have it when I return next week.

Hope this helps
