Post by: olebusman on September 30, 2009, 04:20:56 PM
Does anybody know of a kit or know the process to remove the torsion bars from the baggage doors and install lifts, hyd cylinders, to ease opening the doors and remove the floor problem????? Thanks  Olebusman

Olebusman,

I'm not clear what you mean by,..."and remove the floor problem".  Does this mean you have flooring tearing away in the area of the attachments to the floor?

I have a 4905 and have solved the problem, "my way".  I can explain and I believe it is easier than removing the torsion bars and installing hyd cylinders.

Question:  Do you have access to the inside of the coach floor area, specifically to the area of where the bolts come up from the bays, and through the floor?

Olebusman -

Don't know if this will help you in your situation, but here's what I did.....

When I got my bus the torsion bar supports were starting to actually pull through the floor.  I replaced the entire floor inside the bus and I make up 1/8" steel plates, about 6"x6" square and set them on the top of the floor, directly above where the bolt come through from inside the bays, up to the floor.  I drilled holes in the plates so the bolts could come through and remounted all the torsion bar support "hinges".  The plates of course support the floor area better than just the original heads of the bolts.

The down side is you have the plates and bolt heads on the floor of your bus.  I was able to work around this because there are cabinets or some other such item directly above the plates.

It has worked for me, they have been in for about 12-12 years now and the underside looks like the day they were put in.

If your set on going with the gas cylinders, I'm sorry I can't help you with that.

Good luck with whatever way you choose to fix the issue.

Chris
