Title: I just gotta put this out there...
Post by: Chaz on September 28, 2009, 07:21:02 AM
This has been weighing on my mind for some time now and I just have to get it out...

I am always impressed and very gratified to see such patience and camaraderie coming from you guys. It's very refreshing and makes me smile as I sing your praises to friends of mine. (you know, the ones who think I'm crazy for having a bus!  ;D) You all make it possible to actually have one and I love it.

And the one thing that really impresses me is the patience you have - especially the "Main Contributors" , shall we say - to answer some of the same questions time after time after time after time..........

When I joined this site buses were BRAND NEW to me and here I had one I just bought, in my drive. Scary. But, I always wanted one so I was going to give it a go.

So then I found you guys. I had tons of questions and I'm sure I was asking redundant questions that were asked many times before but were new to me. I actually felt like some of them might have actually BEEN new at the time .................Ha, silly me.  :D But you guys always helped me out. Just fantastic.

And now thru the years, I have seen so many questions that have been asked so many times before and yet you are all still here, patient and willing to help. I just wanted to say that that is without a doubt, truly awesome. And I for one thank you all very much. I can, with 100% confidence, tell you that I would not not have my bus right now if it wasn't for you. Thank you.

I'm still hoping to one day be able to pay back some favors. But I tend to be better with my hands than my knowledge.  ::)

  Most sincerely,
   Just me,
    Chaz

This is why we're here.  Hope you continue on with our insane hobby.  You should see my friends looks on their face when I show them either pictures of my bus or my truck conversion project.  Some like working on cars, ours is just a bit bigger of a hobby. Good Luck, TomC

I couldn't agree more.  I also use the search function a lot, and I've just learned that  if you put your search term in "quotes" you can zero in a lot easier.  I learned that you can also read the past posts like archives by typing in a number other than "0" in the URL  in your browser.  php?board=1.0 is the current page and top post, if you where to type in "1.5000" instead "1.0" you get the 5000th post, about 250 pages back, March 2008.

I've actually read back and spot-read posts all the way back to the beginning, something to do when there is nothing on TV, my book isn't very interesting and it's too early to go to bed!

Chaz, I am glad you didn't quit, as you almost did a while ago. Keeping an old bus can be so frustrating, as we all know, when things don't work right... But it is the greatest feeling when it is running smooth.

I also have learned so much from the guys on this board, by just reading what's going on, or asking specific questions as the need arises.

I always read and enjoy your posts because you are such a good and entertaining writer.

You should write an article about your bus for BCM so we could all see what you have. If they print mine, they'll print anybody's... And it doesn't take very long to write 1500 words and send a few pictures.

Take care and keep it up and running.

JC

Thanks for the kind words whoever they may be for.

There are many of us that have been around since before these boards started that are willing to help any way possible.

I too have learned a tremendous lot from others.

Right on!  I agree totally.  I am not very far along on my project, but I am as far as I am because of this board.  Thanks to all of you for the help!

I agree with Chaz totally! Without so much help from the members of the board I would probably still be stuck in Palm Springs when I broke down in 12/06! ;) Thanks to a couple of "Bus Angels" I was able to get 'er up and running again. Not only did they show up, I had numerous phone calls from guys who I had never met or chatted with. Since then all of them have become very good friends. The building of friendships go on and on. What a great way to have fun!

I'm glad you didn't give up Chaz, as others have said, it's very frustrating sometimes when we run into difficulties. I have felt that way many times myself. But if we hang in there, the solutions are just around the corner, the bus nut corner.

I agree. We all started with nothing and someone had to teach us somewhere along the line. There are times when I see a question asked like: What oil should I use? I could answer, but I enjoy seeing some of the newer members post and share what they have learned. Often I just go back and cut and past some of my answers from the archives. No reason to retype it all.

Chaz You said you you can't wait to return the favors.  Well I know you already have because your write  up on the door you cut in the side of the bus and using WD 40 to keep the blade from filling up has help me lots. Thanks for the tip :)

Part of the Magic is the liberal use of "Furry Logic" Not that new computer stuff called "Fuzzy Logic".

No Question is ever too dumb, Except the one you didn't ask and got into trouble.

Anything is possible, Mostly Probable and Most likely has been done 50 different ways
which usually ends up with a lot of fussing yet answering the question at the same time.

Then there are those " Out There" problems and questions.. Gee if you don't ask you will never know or at least need to wait until someone else ask's it....

Everyone here has either and opinion or an answer no matter the subject or how much
grease and grime it will cause to adhere to your skin and clothes.

Buses do actually adopt the attitudes of the owner at some point. The gremlins are home grown
and raised specifically on a diet of 50 year old wires, insulation and human chaff caught in air conditioner and heater ducts. Keeping your own personal assistant gremlin happy is a matter of following the rule of never buying anything too new. ( Tools, Clothes & Bus stuff. )

OK, So I made my brain hurt.. Next???

As said "some of us started with nothing"

I resemble that remark. I too started with nothing and still have most of it left! ;D

I have learned as much or more than I ever could have helped here on the board, and just knowing that no matter where my coaches or freinds are there is a nut somewhere near willing to help! Thanks to all y'all for all you do! And thank you Chaz fer start'n this thread!

Hey guys,
Thanx for the nice replies. I appreciate all the kind words and am also glad I am still in this demented hobby!!  ::)  ;D I just love it and the idea of having a "home on wheels".  ;) But sometimes, as you well know, it can be veeeeery trying.

JC, I can't imagine you like reading my posts. If I have to write something that is, well, "important" shall we say, I have my secretary proof it and she just shakes her head. (I think she calls it "coloquial" or something like that.) I think I write as scattered as I talk and that will never make me a "Great Literary Figure".  :)

Chris4905 and Paso One,
NO way have I even rubbed the surface of paying back what I have gotten from here. I doubt I ever will......... even if I live as long as some of you old farts. (names withheld in fear of future litigation)  :) I'm "half a Centurian now and am surprised I've made it here.
But, if I can help in some way, I love to. Blacksmiths, I have found, tend to be that way. Or maybe it's just guys who like to help are Blacksmith's.  ???
(Kinda like one of my Dad's favorite poem's:
                             I ask a simple question,
                             The truth I only wish,
                             Are all Fisherman Liars,
                             Or do Liars only fish? )   ;) ;D ;D

Anyway, Thanx again to all of you "sharers of the sacred bus knowledge" and even all you "Gleaner's of the knowledge".  :) I guess at some point we all do get something, at different times, from different people. It's just great to be involved where people actually still do that. (Blacksmithing really does rank up there too!) Too bad there isn't more of it in the country nowadays.

Sincerely,
  Just
    Chaz

p.s. Hope you didn't hurt your brain too bad, Dave.  ;)
