Hi folks, got home late last night...the latest BCM was here...the lead article was WONDERFUL!
Who is it...in other words...the article said he got a lot of help from the forums here...what is the name he goes by?
Jack
Their screen name here is lostagain (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=1151).
We met Mr. 'LostAgain' in May of this year...a very nice gentleman.
Unfortunately we didnt get to see his bus in person..there was a fuel strainer/filter problem, but our paths will cross again.
Mark
Thank you.
I got the kinks worked out shortly after the May BC Bus Nuts rally, and LostAgain has been running really good and strong all summer. We have put on 10 000 km since. A lot of back and forth to Alberta for motorcross races and hare scrambles with my teenage boys. And other trips too. I am very pleased with the engine overhaul. It is very strong, (for a 4-71!), and runs cool. I went with 75 injectors from 65s, but had the rad re cored. The turbo is giving me more torque lower down in the rpm range, so I can hold a gear longer going up a hill. I get 12 psi of boost. That's up from 10 right after the overhaul. I only get black smoke if I floor it on a green light before the turbo spools up. It is so nice to go up the hills with the trucks, (the loaded ones anyway!). It is well worth turboing a 2 stroke DD. After reassembling everything so carefully, I still have a couple of oil leaks... disappointing! A lot less than before thou. Anyway, we sure enjoy the old bus! I get to clean it up today after coming home last night from a hare scramble this weekend.
I am glad somebody liked the article. Thank you.
Take care,
JC
JC, it was one of the best articles I have seen!
WHAT!!! Only TWO or so leaks? And you are complaining?! Most folks would KILL for that...ask Jack Conrad....I am pretty sure him and Paula would agree!
Remember...when they leak...it is the dog coming out of them peeing! ;D
Jack
"After reassembling everything so carefully, I still have a couple of oil leaks... "
....so the overhaul was done exactly right...Ive never seen a DD that didnt leak, but Ive heard they exist. Just like Bigfoot, Opopogo, and a balanced budget..lol
Best regards JC
Mark
Don't look at them as oil leaks. Think of them as marking your territory. Besides, if you leave a puddle of oil then you know that you still have oil in the engine. Now if you have no puddle, then it is time to worry. ;D ;D
Mark (stormcloud),
FWIW, we have one of those DD that doesn't "sweat." Of course, it is a four stroke, but I get mad if I see it leaking, and always have to fix it.
God bless,
John
When I had my 8V71 I was told if I painted an ANVIL with the same color paint it would leak oil
I didn't try it but maybe it works like that

JC/lostagain,
Great article and great looking conversion. I think it is great, and amazing, that you were able to reunite with "The Rocket" after having an early history with it after being it's driver. What are the odds? Congratulations.
John
I sure like the old Courier 96! I wouldn't part with it for anything. Many miles and trips yet in 'er.
Every Spring after driving the hockey team's 102D3 all winter, I look forward to getting LostAgain on the road again for the Summer.
You can't beat the pleasure and satisfaction of keeping an old bus like this going...
Take care,
JC
