Title: question for belfort
Post by: ruthi on September 24, 2009, 07:02:57 AM
Did you use your original light lenses on your dina? Ours need to be replaced, and we are trying to figure out what to do with them. MCI says they cant get them. Any ideas?

I still have the front and rear lenses installed in my bus, but they are covered with sign vinyl right now.  The left rear lenses are shot.  The mounting studs started to break loose and the lenses have multiple cracks in them.  The right rear and front lenses are in decent shape.  I am planning to remove the light assemblies at some point and filling in the space with foam and fiberglass.  I'm certainly willing to give them to someone who needs them.

When I checked about three or four months ago, MCI still had new light assemblies for the rear, but they are like $75 each and there are six of them total.  I don't know about the lenses.

Thanks, I guess we will have to look into alternatives also. I know MCI told us they dont have the lenses. We have our bus body work done now, and it is primed. Now, finding someone to paint it. It has to be someone local, as it is ready to do, cant be driven very far. We know someone who could do it, but we would have to erect some kind of protection to put the bus under to do it. We live in the country, so no one would care. We are about ready to start on the inside. We will be home next week, and need to get some pics of the progress. Building our own has been a dream for some time now, ever since we got our gmc yrs back. It was already converted, although we did a lot to it after getting it, but the floor plan remained to same. We have to make a final decision on the new floor plan next week, so it can get started.

I'm happy to give you my light assemblies once I get back from my trip.  The sign vinyl should come right off with a little heat.

Personally, I would forget about the original lights as they corrode and have other issues.  If you have someone who does fiberglass I would remove the original light assemblies and then fill the hole in and have them create a flat surface you can mount LED lights on.

Yep, I think that is what we are going to do. We can have the guy who did the rest of the fiberglass work get that done for us. We wanted to go with led anyway. Thanks
