Title: Feature article topics you would like to see in coming months
Post by: HighTechRedneck on September 18, 2009, 08:23:17 PM
In addition to the monthly columns mentioned in my other thread this evening, we are looking for your assistance in identifying topics for upcoming feature articles in Bus Conversions Magazine.

Please post your suggestions to this thread.  Suggestions can be general like "I would like to see an article on Inverters".  Or they can be very specific like "I would like to see an article on how to build a pocket door".

Thanks Andy!  That is just the kind of suggestion & input we are looking for!  ;D

What will really help the magazine be of value to us as bus enthusiasts are ideas generated from the grease pits, sawhorses and dreams of busnuts in the trenches or who desire to be in the wonderful trenches of bus ownership.  :D  :D  (trenches -> not to be confused with swamps or quicksand).  ;D

Keep the good stuff coming!

Best Regards, Phil

Inverters seem to be a hot topic as of late, my vote! To include wire size, type, configuration etc. etc..

Wiring in general, 12v, 24v and 120v.

Using Coach Alternator to charge House Bank. Detailed schematic would be nice too.

Plumbing system design.

Also, there may not be much of a demand, but figuring out the air ducting, was tough.

What about a rerun of how to prepare for spray foam (didn't Jack do one on that).

Water filtration.

I will post more, if I can think of more.

God bless,

John

The topic most of the guys need here is the mechanical part of these bus that is the most expensive part of owning a bus and most of the break downs are preventable with a little insight about how the systems work and what to look for including the generator at over a 100 dollars a hour it gets very expensive for a 20 dollar seal costing you 500 dollars.

good luck

two topics that were dealt with ten years ago, and would be good to cover again:

a concrete slab to work on. how much, how big, do you need rebar everywhere or just under the tires. last time it went on for 16 forum pages.

what to do when you break down big time in North Nowhere. call AAA? rent an SUV and a towbar?

Hi Mike,

I know this is going to sound silly, but some of the basics.  How to properly jack and crib a bus.  Which could lead into how to change a tire.   (I didn't know I had lefthand threaded studs on the bus till I read it on here. ) How to change an airbag.  Where and what the emergency flap looks like, in both the open and closed position.  Perhaps an article on the air system , specifically the tanks and draining them.  You could follow that up with an article on how to install remote operated drains.

One thing that would be nice in any of these articles is to list all the tools you used to do the job.  And space/money/time permitting, pictures, lots of pictures.  I have read threads about how to fix something and not have a clue what they were talking about till someone posted a picture and the light bulb went off.

Just as a thought, how about the tools we all use, whats wrong with them or whats right with them and why do some people have good luck with the tools and the next person can go and buy one and it won't listen to him or do anything he wants it to do.  All tools are not created equal.

I agree with Clifford! Mechanical is a good subject. Even things like how to rebuild brakes. Excellent topic.

Now, I also know that it is easy to sit here, and post ideas, and we aren't the ones doing the real sweat work. Good job, Mike, Phil, and Chad. These kinds of posts, are the kind that are going to make your magazine great!

God bless,

John

How about an article or series of articles with on the road emergency fixes. I've seen some very creative minds do some remarkable things to get back to civilization. Using a bicycle pump to prime the fuel system, forcing a garbage bag into a hole to plug a leak in a tubeless tire, plugging an air valve leak with a bolt and pipe tape etc. Most of the people on here are brilliant and the rest of us could use fresh ideas when in trouble...Cable
