Title: Tag axle seal or axle plug leaking???
Post by: RickB on September 11, 2009, 03:25:55 PM
Hey all,

I've got a nagging leak on my drivers side tag seal. It's leaking out of my chrome ring and onto my alcoa.

The weird thing is it looks like it's coming out of the axle oil plug. How could it do that unless it's overfull??

I have been parking my bus on 6" ramps in the front so the drive tires don't leave indents in the tar, would tilting the bus back like that cause the tag axle oil level to rise?

Have any of you had to replace the rubber oil add plug?

Thanks for your help.

Rick

Rick I have never been able to stop the hub seal from leaking by replacing the plug.
If you have the Stemco type that the oil is visible most of the time the plastic has cracked change out the complete unit with the gasket for about 20 bucks from Napa

good luck

On our "Stemco" the plug had becomce hard & brittle.  A replacement plug solved the problem.  Jack

Jack has the ticket. Those plugs get hard and brittle and crack or do not seal properly. Go get new ones. JD has them. NAPA might, also, or a truck parts store.
