Title: side skins
Post by: frontman on September 01, 2009, 07:41:17 AM
Well, it has been an adventure so far!  I have got my Eagle 15 down to the tubing and just have the floor to take out.
We welded all of our extensions last night and plan on raising the roof tonight.  (We are adding in the center of the windows)  I have been looking at pictures for 2 weeks and wondering if I should add the length to the upper or lower outside skin.  The skin under the window channel is still in place and in good shape, it would be a shame to replace it.  But it looks like that is where most of the raised Eagles have the extra 8 inches of metal.
Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Any advice on the best way to attach the new skins?

My MCI was raised above the windows, it separated the windows from the top molding / rain gutter.  When I'm standing I have to duck down to see very far because the windows are short.

The windows are still in line with the rest of the bus and in my opinion don't look too bad.  However my next bus will probably be raised below the windows as the grass is always greener.

Now, take my opinion and a dollar bill and buy a cheap cup of coffee for what it's worth. =)

When I raised my Eagle I went with a dual pane slider. Added the raise to the window height. If you raise the factory windows you have to almost get up to look out. If you don't you bent over to look out when standing up. Depends on you height also. I like the look of the taller window.

I used one sheet of fiberglass to cover mine.  Got it from R&M Fiberglass.  I raised mine from above the lower skin and left the lower untouched.   I like shorter windows to make for a bigger curtain valence in the coach, and if I ever want to add an awning I want it to roll up below the drip rail.  Not necessarily the right way, but my way.

I glued my siding on with NP-1 urethane caulk.  It is similar to Sikaflex, but half the price.
