Title: WTB: RV conversion
Post by: Geodesiq on August 22, 2009, 09:11:09 PM
Howdy. Newbie is in the market for a 35' manual tranny bus/RV conversion already done. My original plan was to spend $25k but I see there are quite a few older 4104, 06, 07 and MCI 5s available in the $10k ball park so that's what I'm shooting for. I also want to experiment with WVO conversion so if I blow up the engine the less I spend the less I'll cry. I'm in upstate NY but the better the deal the farther I'll travel. One 4106 I'm looking at was a band bus and needs some interior work like new toilet, bunks & some seats removed, stove, fridge. To save $$$ I'd like to use salvaged RV components. Can someone recommend a good shop to do that? Finally any thoughts on the DD 671 and 8v71 engines as candidates for WVO? Thanks.

Hi,

It seems that if you buy a bus for $10K and then pay somebody to do a bunch of work on it you might be better off to pay the $25K of what you want.  Labor at a shop will quickly eat up the difference.

Band buses are known for being drove into the ground.  You will want to really have it checked out by someone that knows the mechanics of the bus.

Happy shopping,

Very good point made there.  Unless you do most of the work yourself, you will spend a lot on conversion labor. There are many great deals out there on nice completed conversions. For example, the owner of the Eagle 01 conversion in the Sterling Classifieds section of Bus Conversions Magazine called in today to lower the price to "$29,000 or best reasonable offer" to get a quick sale.  It is a really nice looking professional conversion done in 2000, built for full timing.  8V71 with 4-speed trans.

HTR,

I can't find the listing for that Eagle in the BC mag listings.  Not the first time something has slipped past me but I looked a bunch of times.  What is the "Sterling"?

Thanks,

John

"Sterling Classifeds" are the premium classifieds in the magazine itself (in both print and PDF version).  It isn't in the online classifieds at this time.

It's on page 34 of the September email issue, Eagle 01 2000 Conversion, sixth add on the page.

If you need his contact information let me know. I'm trying to help Ken sell his Eagle, hopefully to a good home.

Take it from the one's of us that have converted a bus,  that is one good buy.  You couldn't do the inside for twice what he wants for the bus.
If it runs you can't go wrong with that one.
