Title: Onan Air Filter?
Post by: Dreamscape on August 19, 2009, 10:42:49 AM
I am looking for an air filter for my Onan 12.0 DJC diesel genny. NAPA does not show any listed for that model. Does anyone have any contact or leads that know Onan?

Hard to read the nameplate as it's not very easily accessible!

I had a manual but we moved and I can't find anything!!! :-[

Thanks,

Paul

Take the filter down to Napa and have them match it up.
Once you have it matched then write the NAPA number on the generator filter base/top/holder so you hve it in the future.

I think I'll go to the other NAPA store and see if I get better results.

Yes I will write down the number on the genny like the oil and fuel.

I did a Google search and came up empty.

I'll continue my search.

Thanks guys,

Paul

I agree about NAPA. Cummins owns Onan, so any Cummins dealer should have an overpriced replacement.

Paul,

I had the same luck as you with the carparts stores in my area.  I finally bit the bullet and went to the rv dealer.  He sent me to the "Car Quest" store down the street.  They had catalogs that listed all the generators and their air and oil and fuel filters.  I just called them and they said my filter was most probably made by "WIX" but it might have come from "Prime Line".  Internet?

John

Thanks, I'll check it out in the morning. Hopefully someone will have or can get what I need.

If you can't find a replacement filter element, a small Donaldson air cleaner isn't that expensive.  Good Luck, TomC

Good idea Tom, I can't believe something so simple is so hard to find, it's just an air filter for crying out loud! ;)

I know one thing, I'll buy two of whatever I do end up finding.

Paul,

Try this:http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index2.asp?Section=4&Make=448&SubMake=775

It lists all the models and their AF.

John

Paul,
Try this guy.
I get everything ONAN from this place but he is in the neighborhood so I can just pop in to his shop.

John,

I did find the model listed but the filter they show is totally different, looks like my air filter for the 871 only smaller.

Maybe someone switched something.

Ed,

They only showed part numbers, so I sent him a message.

Thanks Guys!

Here is a picture to confirm what I had a hard time reading, the darn thing is not in the best place to begin with.

I wished I would have thought about doing that last night instead of trying to squeeze in there.

It is a DJC, I'll change the original post to reflect that.

I know it's not very clean so just ignore that OK!

I have the 2 cylinder version of your generator called a DJB.  I took off the little rectangular air cleaner on top of the intake manifold and installed what they called the contractor air cleaner-which is the fore mentioned Donaldson can type air cleaner.  Works well-can always get an element for it.  Good Luck, TomC
