Title: 8v92 but not bus related
Post by: busnut104 on August 18, 2009, 05:58:50 PM
Hi: Maybe some of the DD experts can help, I have a 8v92 in my dump truck. I'm loading and hauling a short distance of around 4 to 5 hundred ft. with two trucks the other has a 8v 71.  One man on the loader and I'm running both trucks. It takes around 4 to 5 minutes to make a round so we do not shut them down, I know the starter would not take it. After the 92 idles those 3 to 4 minutes and I start out and when I give it power to back up the ramp to dump there is quite a bit of blue exhaust. It does use some oil and leaks some, but not to bad. My question is which could be causing this, blower seals or rings? Also when I first start in the morning till it get warmed up I have the same thing. does not seam to bad after that unless you leave it idle, which I try not to do in most cases. Thanks.

Busnut104, I am not a expert but your problem are the ring expander's the DD 8v92 has 4 different expander for different application and yours was proably built for hi way use.
What you need are the white color with 17 to 19 lbs of tension like the transit engines use in the stop and go traffic
The engine is not being worked hard enough to burn the oil getting past the low tension oil ring expander.
The smoke on start up is just oil in the air box, the cure is to work it hard every chance you get.
Hope this helps a little

good luck

WOW I learn here everyday I never knew there are different engine spec's for highway use. I thought that the rotation of left or right was all I needed to check.
No I don't need a engine, mine is just fine but it never hurts to look.
