I had my bus parked for one night in a nice neighborhood, and some of the local kids thought it would be fun to smash up my blind spot mirrors. It was an interesting drive home, that's for sure.
Anyways, the blind spot on the left was just one of those round stick-on types, but the right mirror had a larger convex mirror mounted on top of the flat mirror - I think this was the standard configuration, you can see it here:

Question is, where can I get another mirror like that?
And actually, I'm in the SF area - anyone know of a local place to get used bus parts? I just found out that one of the local tour companies that went out of business was parting out MCIs for cheap but isn't anymore, shame to have missed out on that opportunity.
MCI part number 3G-22-61 is a 6" spot mirror that mounts on the bracket. You may also pick something up at a local truck supply.

How soon do you need it? I'm replacing the mirrors on my 96A3 as soon as I get the mounts for the fancy new mirrors, but haven't been in a rush because I'm in a campground, and because the mounts are going to cost a couple of hundred bux (and I only paid $50 for the mirrors).
I can sell you the whole mirrors and mounts, and even better, I'm just south of San Jose.
A truck dealer such as Peterbilt has them on the shelf from $15-$30 depending upon the style and placement of the mounting stud.
Don't you hate those kind of kids? I have some friends in St Louis that live on top of a hill on the outside of a curved road. Their mailbox always got clobbered by cars so they sunk a 6 inch steel pipe in the ground fill with concrete with a perfect replica functioning mailbox on top made from 1/4" steel sheet. You would never think it was different than a normal mailbox except for the little car stickers on the pole that represent the cars that have met their demise on it. One morning my friend went to the end of his driveway to get the paper and looked down the hill and noticed everyones mailbox was smashed and then looked at his and saw it was still same old green mailbox except there was a half of a baseball bat laying next to it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D True story
If only I could have my mirrors whack back at hoodlums.. :)
I've looked into buying parts new, and it's fairly pricey.
I know that lots of buses like these are sitting in bus graveyards. Presumably we (Joe Q. Public) can go into some of these places with our wrenches and pull off the parts we need and get them cheap? Or am I dreaming?
And does anyone know one around SF? I hear there's a junkyard somewhere up 5, but I don't know where or how far.
Truck stops and truck part/service places usually carry the round ones, or at least that is where I got mine.
Round convex mirrors are a stock part, come in incremental sizes at the parts supplier near you.
You also have the choice to get them with heating elements for those times they fog up.
Parts places are usually cheaper than the truck stops, and have more selection.
happy coaching!

Thanks - but I'm not just talking about the mirrors anywmore...
I have a whole list of parts I need for my bus, and I figure I need to find someone with an MCI 102 in a junkyard that they're willing to sell parts off of. Anyone know of one in NorCal?
It's a little surprising that nobody has compiled a list and/or made a map - I'm a little tempted to do it myself.

Depending on what ya need I may have it, we just retired an '86 102A3. So far we haven't really been parting it out, but I have stole some things off it for our only other MCI ('85 96A3).
But also keep in mind I'm in TN and yer in CA! FWIW ;D BK ;D
