hi ready to start the 871 , how should i bleed the system, entire system was dry?
One of the easiest ways is to remove one of the 1/4 pipe plugs that USUALLY on the fuel filter (primary) that is plumbed closes to the fuel tank - Get a 1/4 NPT brass barbed hose adapter and small bug prayer from Lowes/Home Depot and attach the end of the sprayer hose to the barb and SLOWLY just pump fresh clean diesel fuel thru that Primary filter - thru the fuel pump thru the next filter (secondary) and and fuel rails - to the restrict or and back to the tank.
Hopefully it should be as simple as that
Good Luck

A generic 12 volt fuel pump also works well and can be used for other things as well. Like transferring fuel to or from gen tank ect. When my fuel pump went out it came in very handy.
I guess that my 4 stroke S60 must be a little different. I just have a switch in the back, on the panel, that I hold down (the switch happens to also say fuel pump ;D ;D ;D). It runs that little pumparoony, and voila, the bus starts great. I know that the 2 strokers must be different.
God bless,
John
John, sorry but 2 strokes are not any different you have a priming pump just like most of us 2 stroke guys have. That is what makes a 60 series a good engine 1/2 of it is taken from 8v92 LOL
good luck
For under a hundred bucks we put a diesel rated free flo elec pump with a built in check valve in line after the primary filter, when needed hit the switch ,pulls the fuel thru the primary filter pushes it thru the primary pump ,then on to fill the secondary filter ,turn it on for a few minutes, start the engine .You can leave it on once running or shut it off, some who have this leave it on (won't hurt any thing) I shut mine off.No need for bug sprayers ,messin with fittings ,no extra ball check valves or bypass plumbing, hit the switch and go. this has been a very effective and simple way of priming the engine as well as both filters,no more pre filling the filters, spin on the new ones (dry)and you're done.I got mine from car quest ,Napa will have the similar pump also ,I'll try to locate the part#.good luck
Thanks Clifford. I didn't know, with all of the talk about separate pumps, bug sprayers, etc. Thanks for setting me straight.
God bless,
John
Well sorry fellas can't seem to find the receipt.Clifford maybe if you have time ,maybe you could see if the #s are on my pump,I think the rear dungeon door is still open, thanks bud :)
Van,
Your setup is a bit different than the older 71s. My 671 goes - primary filter to mechanical pump to secondary filter to engine.
An electric fuel pump usually works better if it is closer to the fuel tank which is where I plan to put mine.
thanks guys , i installed ther pump where the line connects above the transmission, worked great, thanks again, ken
Gus,you are correct ,I meant to say after the primary filter is where mine is installed in line.I will go edit that post ,thanks .Actually I think I was trying to describe the physical location of mine and got the two descriptions jumbled together (silly Me!),this seems to happen alot lately LOL. Mccarick ,congtates,on your progress and good luck.
I have a Racor filter housing for my primary fuel filter. It has a built in priming button that you just push with your thumb. It saved me the one time I lost prime during a fuel filter change. It would probably be a total pain to use if the fuel system was completely dry.
I have one of those thumb primers on my '94 Dodge Cummins and I sure wouldn't want to try to do any serious priming with it!!
