I have posted this in the past, over the weekend still had the problem but there wasn't any fuel in the oil but it was flowing
out of the seal. Changed the oil for the 3rd time just to be sure. Found out the oil filter was full of fuel and that is where it
was coming from. Changed the oil again (4th time, all new filters) PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!! Now, I have a NEW PROBLEM
the new oil is leaking through the seal, so it needs to be replaced. Has anyone ever replaced the CRANKCASE SEAL behind
the pulley and how hard would it be?
Steve 5B......
Steve, it would help if you could tell us if the engine has a harmonic balancer or not and if the pulley has the bolt on the inside or the outside.
good luck
Luvrbus,
Not really knowing what I'm looking at, there is a large nut holding the pulley on where the belts run the fans above and to the
right, compressor for the otr ac. The nut is in the front of the pulley! Does that help?
Steve 5B......
Steve, that is good the nut is on the outside of the pulley takes the special puller out of play.
If you have a harmonic balancer it will behind the pulleys and will need to be removed along with the cone and seals.
Don't forget to replace the cone and the seal inside the cone
good luck

Please pardon my ignorance(as usual :D), but the statement about fuel in the oil filter has me quite puzzled. Could you or someone elaborate, sounds like a bigger issue ???

My thoughts too, how did the fuel get into the oil filter in the first place? That would be where I search.
Guys,
The answer to the question OIL FILTER FULL OF FUEL. After finding the crossover line was broken in half (haven't a clue how
that happened) the engine was filled with fuel and the main oil filter was never changed . After seeing the seal leaking, and
oil , fuel all over the engine it was power washed and the filter was bypassed. There was about 13 gallons of oil and fuel mixed
that was drained from the engine. After removing the filter, raw fuel flowed out. Hope that might answer your question.
Thanks,
Steve 5B....
Just think how clean the inside of the engine is now!
We used to put a gallon or two of fuel in the crankcase of a running engine before overhaul just to clean things up a bit.
How or why do you bypass the oil filter? I guess I don't under why, after you drained the fuel/oil out and refilled with straight oil, and ran the engine, the fuel left in the filter didn't get pumped back into the engine?
Brian
Bevans, some 8v92 engines came with the bypass filter it bypasses the filter and the oil cooler to heat the oil faster
good luck
Dave or Cliff,
Does adding a gallon of fuel to the crankcase prior to draining for a oil change do any harm....if the engine isn't run with a load? Thanks for your comment. An old Navy Chief Engineman told me once that he had done that for 20 years on "the boats". His mix was 5 to one fuel to oil for a gas engine with stuck lifters or a flush. Those Chiefs batted 99% with me regardless of their rate and part of my career was based on their most excellent advice.

John
JohnEd, I don't use the method but have seen it done.
good luck
Are you certain that was an oil filter and not one of your fuel filters? I have been reading this post and can't imagine what is taking place here. I think it is time for some pictures.
