Title: 2009 NonRally at Palmetto Cove (Oct 5th till 11th)
Post by: kyle4501 on August 10, 2009, 09:54:50 AM
Mark your calendars
October 5th thru 11th (early arrival & staying later is welcome)
No reservations taken (will be easier to plan if you post your intentions here tho . . . )
No rally fee, just the $20/night campground fee that includes full hookups (elec, water, & sewer).
For meals, we will continue with the modified potluck - I'll have the main dish & everyone brings a side or a donation.

Theme is same as last time  -- Eat & Greet

http://www.palmettocove.com/ (http://www.palmettocove.com/)

Tentative Schedule:

Monday thru Friday noon - Wing it - depending on who is there & what 'we' want to do. There are many hiking trails & waterfalls in the area.
To see some of what is available:
http://www.sctrails.net/trails/MAPS/SCmap.html (http://www.sctrails.net/trails/MAPS/SCmap.html)
(The Cove is in North West Greenville County & close to Northern Pickens county.)

Friday (10-9)
Supper - baked spaghetti (Kyle4501 will provide)

Saturday (10-10)
Breakfast - omelets in a bag & pancakes
Lunch - hot dogs & hamburgers, chicken speedies (by Jack Hart Jr)
Supper - BBQ (Kyle4501 will provide the meat  ;D   bring a side if you can

Sunday (10-11)
Breakfast - biscuts & gravy, pastries
Lunch - leftovers

Post your intentions & what you wish to bring. . . .  8)

I'd like to try something new this time with the meals, I'd like to share the hosting.
Past attendees know that I'm usually late, lunch at noon is served closer to 1. & the 3 o'clock ice cream social ended up being a milkshake mixer at 4:30. . . .
If someone wants to take the lead for a meal, that might get things closer to schedule. That lead only means working with what is already there, you won't have to buy anything, just grab a few friends to make sure things are ready when needed.
It's bound to be easy to improve upon my example of punctuality  :o   ;)   ;D

Jack,
Bring some speedies!
You don't need to feed everyone a full meal, with all the other food there you should be able to get away with a more manageable amount!

NewbeeMC9,
Are you gonna bring the hamburgers & grill? Man, those were the best!

Kyle, I will simply need a tentative head count about 5 days out...have to marinade the cluck a lloonngg time! ;D

Debi and I went to Keyle's for the July 4th. Debi went to the store and plan out the meals that we would be eating for that weekend. Well Debi never cook a thing that weekend and all the meals she plain came back home with us. I can tell you this for sure you will not go hunger at Keyl's if you do that would have to be your choice. Plenty of good food, great people and great place to see. Debi and I are looking forward to be there Oct.

Kyle,

I'm planning to be there.  I'll be by myself, however.  Likely arrive Thursday, if I can arrange it.

As I'm not a cook, let me know how I can help with either a donation or by picking up some groceries, etc.

Looking forward to it.

Same as John,  I can't cook, can't half see...but not too crippled up yet...and T won't be up until Friday afternoon.   I'll be over on Thursday...AM if no blown tires this time.   :o

What to bring? I'll be happy to contribute to costs too.

I could really use the winning lottery ticket . . . .  ;D

But, since that ain't gonna happen, I'll settle for less.

There will be a donation pot set out for cash contributions.
The first post on this thread has a tentative schedule/ menu.  As people let me know, I'll add who is bringing what. If someone wants more meals posted, speak up & offer a suggestion.

I'll try to have a board set up so people can see where help is needed for meal preparations.

It is easier when I have some idea of what others are interested in.  ;D  8)

All are welcome, post here or send me a private message if you can attend - it helps to know how much groceries are needed.

Thanks Charles,
I've had my hands full lately . . .
I hope y'all can make it.
I've got something for you - JR asked me to give to you since we're closer . . . . but you see how that's working out.  ;D  ::)

Looking forward to seeing everyone . . . .

I'm planning on being there most of the week - except for a trip to Savannah on Wednesday to pay a ticket from a speed trap.  :o  :(

Can't you pay it on-line or were you pulling the trailer too fast ;D

I tried the on-line thing - but they said it was a mandatory court appearance required. I couldn't find my current insurance card & the cop said "no problem" Then he cites me for not having proof of insurance in addition to the speed trap thing.

To add insult to injury, he lectured me on the safety hazards of driving over 65mph & the zero tolerance for anything over 65mph blah, blah, blah. . . . Curious how lots of radar stations show my speedometer spot on accurate but his laser says it is 6 mph slow. . . . Also curious that when I got back on the road & did the posted limit (that should have been 6mph fast according to barney's laser,) I was being passed by everything on the road.
(I ain't contesting the speeding charge, just the amount over.)

I've got to call the recorder's court tomorrow to see what they have to say & pay their fines. . . .  :(

Post by: kyle4501 on September 16, 2009, 06:12:16 AM
Mandatory court appearance to demonstrate proof of insurance - unless the magistrate accepts the faxed copy . . . .

As for the speeding citation, the fine is $145. Not enough to to be worth fighting, but if I am to have any hope of getting the points reduced . . . I have to show up in court.

At least it's only 4 1/2 hours away & I have friends in the area . . . . Sounds like a good excuse for a visit.  ;D

Now, back to the Non-rally discussions.

And, for those coming up I-95 from south of Savannah, Ga., watch for the reductions in speed limit . . . . They may be enhancing their revenue in $145 increments.  :o

Kyle, Don't hold your breath toooo long but I may be making the maiden voyage to tha shindig. I actually have exterior 95 percent complete, complete running wiring lights, and part interior. Sound like I moving right on but considering I've been about 8 yrs its not quite the speedy conversion I had planned. Probably be a day trip. Right now no bed, and the potty goes to nowhere!!!!

I'm gonna need a couple of go-boxes for Charles' BBQ!  NO worry, I'll bring my own boxes!   ;D  ::) :P
We're off busing this week to Denton for the last Bluegrass Festival of the season...in this area anyway.   Once we get back, won't have to do anything but check the tars (I do hope) and head over to Cleveland!
Anyone going to be there on Wednesday?  Planning on Thursday, but....?
If the weather's nice, probably get Anita and John, and Greg down on Saturday afternoon for a bit.  Anyone that picks a little bluegrass is welcome to join right in!
Looking forward to the soiree!
Kyle, if it suits, I'm going to make a donation toward the food.   Terri won't be down until Friday, and I can't boil water without burning it.   Unless you know of some specific unmet need, that's the plan!

Yes Bill, any friend of yours is welcome & no reservations are needed - but as Jon said, your unit must have your own bath facilities as the cove has none.

We will be sharing Palmetto Hall & the Shelter with the Airstreamers like last time. They are looking forward to it too!

JR, we don't need good weather for Anita and John, and Greg, their past performances have earned them the right to join us ANYTIME! Besides, the BBQ is not to be missed!

BTW, we have access to the Hall & shelter, so the weather won't matter.  ;D  8)

I was planning on dragging my trailer up there Thursday morning due to the Savannah trip on Wednesday to make my contribution for the Labor Day speed trap fund raiser I participated in.  ::)
I'll try to make an appearance on Monday & Tuesday. Mom & Dad (Sarah & Fred) will be there all week to keep an eye on all those "bus people" . . . .  ;D  ;D  ;D

Hello Kyle,   I don't know who supplied the barbeque sauce for the April 09 get-together but I think it was the best I've ever tasted. It had a light vinegar flavor.(I think we talked about this before) ,someone may remember? Let me know what we need to bring. Patsy ,Glen Rice

I am still debating coming up for this one.  I have a hard decision to make since it is the weekend of the Georgia-Tennessee game and I haven't missed this matchup in person since 1995.  My bus has changed a ton since I first went to the 2007 July Rally, the outside still looks like crap but i have a TV and a Toilet ;)

I hereby offer the use of Directv (and attached bus) for said purpose!   You may be sitting alone, but no problemo if you want to watch the game!   Make yourself comfy!
Also got a spare portable dish for Directv if you have a receiver.
Come'n over for the weekend!   You'll get to see the game!

Brandon, so glad to hear you're gonna be there! I hope the ride is shorter than last time  ;)

As to what to bring, sides for the menu listed in the first post will be needed. Donations will also be accepted to help offset the cost of the provided meats.

Bring your own drinks, plates & flatware too.

It's gonna be FUN!  ;D

Jack is it possible for a local nut to "drive" you? Personally I think being around good friends & food will help the healing process! (maybe some Speedies chicken will "speed" up recovery time! ;D )

Very sorry to hear of your tran$port....No worry, Paula can drive that bus.  No problemo!   Aim that 40' sucker down the big road and let Paula push the pedals!   She can do it!
May I ask what you've picked up lately that injured you back?  Nevermind if it wasn't related to picking up something heavy.    Maybe something heavy?   How about changing and engine out?  ::)
Remember, those guys suggesting the meds are good at what they do.  They will fix you up quickly...better living through chemistry!    Take the meds as they are prescribed.   A good many folk believe that they'll get 'addicted' to pain meds.  Trust me, you won't.   You'll want to forget the stuff once you feel good again.
Hope to find y'all there soon! Me and Molly (the dog  ;D) will be over tomorrow 'bout when Bill and Phyllis get there.  About 3 hours from here....I'll be on the road by 10 or so-- that's about noonish at Palmetto .
I can have a little later breakfast than Bill and Phyllis.... since they are...what..about 2 hours to the east of me!   :D
Jack, where are you located?   We could come up and move you and Paula to Palmetto Cove.
Even though I'll be there tomorrow, we could go and get Jack from wherever he is jammed.
Jacks our featured guest!  We gotta get him and Paula down here! ;D

Call me:  704 650 0235 This phone's pretty much 24/7.   Call me.   Up on Wednesday morn.    Everything's ready to go.

They wanted to be there for this NonRally very badly, and told me several times that he loved these 2 places/rallys! (mine & Kyle's @ Palmetto Cove)

It's just God & Ned's body weren't ready fer him to leave God's country here in TN yet, so y'all will have to wait! ;D

Seriously, y'all have a great time and eat something healthy for "Uncle Ned"!

He'll be fine, just gonna have to take a little time to recover!

Just got back from Savannah an hour ago. The lady Judge was very efficient - traffic court started at 10AM & I was out in an hour. I was lucky in that 5 or 6 cases like mine were before me, so I was able to learn a little. The judge pronounced the fine. When I asked if she could help with the points, she recited my past infractions, paused, then said "I suppose we can help an idiot passing thru" & then reduced the speeding charge to no points.
Thanks to Dave for the words of wisdom to keep what I said to a minimum. It was hard, but I did & I got the result I was hoping for & didn't have to pay a lawyer!  8)

Went to "Vick's on The River" for lunch - awesome! Then had an uneventful ride back.

Hope to be at the cove before lunch tomorrow.

P.S. I received a sad bit of news this evening - mom & dad's neighbor in W. Columbia (Bill) passed away today, so they may not get to participate at the cove this weekend & I may need to leave for a day. Bill was a GREAT neighbor & was always eager to help me do stuff on my first car when I was in high school. . . . He will be sorely missed. :'(

Had a great time!  It was great to see every body again and meet the some new folks.  It was great to put some faces to some handles on the board.  Also some names to faces that I remembered but there name had escaped me ;).

Good thing there wasn't any food there because I was needing to lose some weight!!! :D :o ::)

Actually my bus was glad it was downhill on the way back because my belly was putting a strain on it :D

The weather was only bad while we slept, which made for good sleeping :), one of the S&S fellows awning roller snapped, that was interesting to see.

Hope to see everybody again next time.

Oh yeah,  Speidies chicken is quite tasty ;D

I don't know how to thank all of the folk that worked to prepare food and make the weekend go so well...!   But large thanks are in order!
Terri and me had a great time... I gained a few pounds too!
Special thanks from me are owed to Bill and Phyllis Haga and Herb and Dolores Spurlock for laying on some fine cooking on Wednesday and Thursday!   Terri didn't get to Palmetto Cove unti Friday...no idea I would eat so well!  ;D ;D
Other than trying to widen the exit at Palmetto Cove when leaving (I didn't...almost did), ride home was totally uneventful.   Lots of traffic...?
As Jon says, the rain wasn't a problem.  Once inside for the night...the rain is fine with me.  Makes for good sleeping!   HOWEVER, the weather was about perfect most of the time for what we were doing.   Got to do a little 'under the awning pickin' on Friday night in close to 70 degrees at 11 PM...very unusual...quite nice.   We quit when the serious rains came.
Dave Lang's sausage is, by itself, a reason to be there!   Jacks 'Speidies' was excellent!   I ate too many of those things!   The spaghetti was excellent too!   What can you say...?
Even the event organization was excellent!  Must have been due to Kyle's momma!   ;)
Thanks to Kyle and Palmetto Cove for hosting the event!   Having access to a large indoor area makes this sort of gathering weatherproof!   The 'staff' at Palmetto Cove deserve thanks too.  They were friendly and accommodating.
Missed Ned and Wilma, but good to hear Ned's doing well!
JR and Terri

Thanks to all who so graciously gave tours of their buses! I heard what has to be the highest compliment I've ever heard & it came from an Airstreamer (who has a very nice TT). They said "I don't want to go back to my trailer after looking at these buses."  ;D  8)

You guys were FANTASTIC!

This weekend was the annual 'Cove Board Meeting' in addition to a rally for the local Airstream club. All were impressed with the bus nuts & most asked where I was able to find such wonderful people! Most of them are planning on attending anytime the bus nuts are there. That's a big difference from the fears preceding the first non-rally. You guys are the reason, so my hat is off to all of you.

Also to all those who helped - you made it possible for me to socialize more than in the past. You also made it possible for the meals to be served on time! everyone knows that that's a first for one of my non-rallys!  :o  ::)  :D

THANKS for making this so much fun!

Hi folks, Dianne and me got back yesterday afternoon from Kingsport, TN, then I took a quick trip to Orlando and back, just getting in.
Thanks for the thanks on the Speedies.  I have to say that Dianne did all the prep work on them, me and John just applied the fire!
My brother-in-law was 72, married to my wonderful sister for over 48 years.  He had Alzheimer's the past few years and drove a truck with it for about two years.  His co-driver would get him under the wheel and as long as there were no turns Charlie would do great.  If there was a turn his co-driver Richard would time it to wake up and tell Charlie to turn onto the next interstate.  God bless folks like Richard that would do such a thing!
Charlie did 3 Greenland tours, 2 in Germany and 2 in Vietnam.  Had 4 wonderful children.  He was the kind of man that would take the grandkids to the mall, act silly and not care if anyone saw him act that way!
Anyway, thanks to all that made the non-rally such a GREAT time!

The sausages that Dave & Carol brought & provided for Friday lunch was a real treat! Dave is an excellent grill master & taught me a few things as well. The Eastern NC BBQ sauce eh whipped up at the last minute had EVERYONE talking! Amazing stuff!

Finally getting around to catching up the board.

Sorry that I had to use up so much of southwest tenn. hospitality instead of getting to agravate the bunch at the rally.

We were on our way when someone decided different. But it shows  how much the friendship of all the busnuts mean. Wake up in a strange hospital 600 miles from home and see several setting around thinking about you. Call from all over the country checking on your condition and wanting to help.
Bk sitting there offering to drive Huggy home "I tink he wanted to drive a good ole time hot rod instead of those beautiful SETRA'S.

While every one was stuffing on saturday night "huggy" pulled out of the hospital parking lot and hit I40 going home.after a slow and easy tip with several stops we pulled into home about 10:00 am.

Caught my new driver with window down coming up the gorge on 40 into NC listing to the detroit growl.

shure hate to have missed the rally
