Arrived in Phoenix, BOY, its hot, How do we operate the roof airs to stop freeze ups and anything else that will give us problems? Do we leave them on high cool 24/7 or is it better to be a little hotter and keep the setting Low fan medium temp? We have pets, and have purchased two fans that can be plugged in to the inverter and running in case we loose power as we will be out for several hours each.
Thanks again,
John
Hi John,
Leave them on and on High Cool then adjust your stats for your comfort. They are not suppose to freeze up but, they sometime do if
the coils are restricted or the unit is low on refrigerant. If these conditions exist, putting the fans on low will cause the unit to
freeze up quicker.
Send some of that heat here to the north east...
Nick-
I doubt you will have any freeze up problems in Phoenix. It takes humidity to freeze up an air conditioner.
John, what do you mean by HOT we are having a cool spell wait till next week when the monsoons return and the humidity goes up to 60 or70 % pansy
good luck
I don't have anything to add to what has been said about the AC's, especially since I am not an expert on them. But regarding the fans as a safety fallback for the pets. In 110° temps in direct sun, if for any reason the air conditioners stop, the fans won't save the pets. Depending on the amount of insulation you have and the amount of time, with it all closed up the temperature inside will soon go so high that no amount of air movement will save them.
In fact the fans could make it worse. Heat rises and pets are often down low (except cats often get on top of things if they can) and when presented with high temperatures will usually seek refuge under things. Fans will circulate the intense hot air by the ceiling bringing it lower.
110° in the shade is a rough thing. In the direct sun like the bus will usually be the temps are much worse. I guess my biggest advice would be make SURE there is plenty of fuel for the generator, the fiuel filter is fresh and that the generator and AC's are in excellent condition before you leave your pets in it for several hours during the heat of the day.
John,LOL don't Jinx the weather ,like Clifford said ,we are in a temp cooling trend right now. After all it's a dry heat LMAO.
Nick we are currently bottling the heat and shipping them out as fast as we can before the humidity returns. ;D We will barter for some snow if there is any left ;)
John, Glad you made it safe and sound! I won't add to what's already been said other than the fact is stay cool. I lived in Mesa for 9 years and I know how hot it can get, like sticking your head in an oven. ;D
When it was 106 here a couple of weeks ago we got by on two roof warts on low and it worked pretty good, left them on day and night.
Put your awnings out, it will help alot.
Do what ever you have to to keep the pets and you guys cool!
