Title: KVH Tracvision LM/DirecTv Question Nick or Anyone?
Post by: Dreamscape on July 20, 2009, 04:08:29 AM
We lost our signal on Thursday morning, everything worked great until then. I'm only getting signal on 28, 30 and 32 transponders. It appears to not be able to find the 101 bird, and thinks the 110 is it. I finally was able to hook up the data cable to our PC and go through the diagnostics. It does not recognize the IRD, it locks onto a satellite with different azimuth and elevation than it's supposed to. I've tried to manually set it, still doesn't see the 101. We have DirecTV and two new flat screens with two DirecTV receivers. Same result on both.

A couple of guys on the DirecTV Tech Forum seem to think it's locking onto the 110 bird, which I seem to agree after going through this. How can I get it to see and lock on the 101? I do have the bird location link, which has helped me a bunch, http://www.dishpointer.com/

One more thing, when I tell the dish to go to the Azimuth location, no problem, but when I tell it to the Elevation, it doesn't like the numbers I put in. We are at Elevation 52.2 and Da Book says it takes three digits, which I have inserted but it says error. HUH?

I fear a gremlin has put a spell on the dome! :'(

Nick, or anyone, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I know you stated your modle as L/M but, is it a L-2 or L3? In-motion, stationary?

It sounds to me like you have a problem in the motors on the roof unit.
I would first pop the dome off and check the drive belt on the motor and the worm gears for the evevation. They do sometimes bind up from debree.
If they are on, Slowly move the dish up and down then side to side to see if there is anything binding up. If so, use a silicone lubricant to remove dirt.
Let me know

It is an In Motion, no belt that I could see, two motors, one big gear for rotation. I watched it move up and down, back and forth on Saturday. It moves with little effort and does not appear to be binding up.

It is an LM, older unit, the L2 and so on are the newer style.

Hi Paul,

Here is the tech line # at KVH 888-584-5714

My favorite tech guy, Capt. Dave Walker retired earlier this year but a guy by the name of Graham Raven took his place.

Good Luck
