Bus Nuts,
Just received a call from Wade, I friend of Sammy's (RIP). He has about 200 manuals of all types of buses, engines, transmission, etc. Sammy's wife wants them to go to boardmembers. Wade is loading the manuals to take them to Texas, the Dallas area I believe.
My thought, is for someone in Texas, pick the manual up from Wade and be the distribution person. When a board member needs a manual, he would pay for the shipping.
There are just too many to ship somewhere. They should be in Texas in two or three days.
(A personal note, I really miss that Sammy, he was a hell've of a nice guy.)
Your thoughts,
Bill
This seems exactly like something sammy would do, in life he helped so many of us here why would it be different now that he's gone, apparently his wife is cut from the same cloth sammy was, I miss him.
Bill, if he going to Dallas Area have Sonnie Gray pick the manuals up that way as honset as Sonnie is they will go to right people and not sold (catskinner on the board) FWIW He should sell those for her they bring bucks and she probably could use the cash.
I for one would not take one free of charge I doubt if either know how much Sammy invested in the manuals over the years good luck
What a kind & generous way to be. That is how I'd like my stuff to be distributed when the time comes.
I'm like luvrbus, I couldn't just take one free either, but if I needed one. . . . so as to not diminish the gift, I think I'd receive it as graciously as it was given & send a nice thankyou card with the appropriate universal gift card (cash) tucked inside to Sammy's wife. You know, keep a good thing going. . .
Sammy left a good wake in his path & seems to have surrounded himself with good people.
Thanks for the example & memories. . . .
If Sonnie can't do it, I'm not too East of Dallas and could assist if needed.
Not sure 'bout tracked vehicle operators....
Damned considerate on Sammy's Wife's part.
I have bought manuals from Sammy before and I bet those are like brand new the ones I bought were new still in the plastic wrap.
It would be a shame for somebody to get those and they pop up on EBay for 100 bucks each and she got nothing. good luck
What if we sold them on the board, and the care taker of the manuals sends Sammy's wife the money.
Just throwing thoughts out.
Bill
Obviously Ok, it seems seemed like this topic is headed for the "Hotly Debated" and "Controversial" Catagory.
I must have missed the history that twice lead to the ebay comment.
I withdraw my offer to help, as I don't want to be anywhere near to where this is headed. LoL ;)
My bad, the offer to help still stands. Guess I'm just a tad bit gun shy. ;D
Matt, no way am I headed there it would just be nice if someone like you or Sonnie helped her get a little cash Sammy was not a wealthy man but a hard working down to earth guy willing to do any thing to help he just got taken from us to soon. good luck
At this point we are just throwing suggestions out. I don't see it headed anywhere.
As the weekend goes on, more busnuts will chime in. Guessing we should be able to come up with something that helps us and Sammy's wife. Although she is not seeking anything in return.
Bill
Set up a PayPal account in his name, post them here on the board and sell them. Direct all the monies to his wife, which is only right. Someone would just have to ship them out to the buyers.
Make this special like it was done for others in the past!

Paul, that makes great sense. Agreed, that would alleviate some of the concern bout carpet-bagging. =)
Abide by his wishes even if they don't make sense to you. That's what I'd want done.
If I was in the position of offering all the manuals Dallas has to the board I know that I would be offended if someone started sending me money for them. Perhaps she is offering them, as Sammy did, because of what is in her heart.
If you will give me a list of manuals when you get it I would be happy to take some of them and if Sammy's wife would like to have a little cash for them I can arange it if not if some one would let me know what she may be in need of I will do what I can.
Sammy has helped me several times.
Sorry to here of his passing.
Don
To bad they are copyright. It would be nice to have a Sammy Memorial Archive right here for all of us to use.
How about we ask the widow if she wants the Ebay/PayPal thing done? Cat has a point but maybe Sammy's widow really needs the cash. If someone did this to me and I didn't want the cash I would send it to his charity with his name on it...maybe.
I want a copy of the 8V71 engine manual/overhaul. Whenever you get around to it and decide on a price.
Thank you,
John
So, what have we've come up with. I sort of like the idea of sending a thank you card with a cash donation. Perhaps we put a sticker on the inside cover in Remembrance of Sammy.
This still open for discussion.

As to copyright you might ask the copyright holder for the rights to put their manual on this site. Many times the copyright holder is long gone or isn't going to reprint old manuals.
I'm too new to the bus world to know the players but it should be easy to find out.
