I am getting closer to taking our bus on a trial run. It is an MCI 9. Part of prepping the bus is spares and tools. I followed the tool kit thread a couple months ago, but it got me to thinking about some emergency spares. Right now I am thinking about a small kit to repair air leaks. Can anyone recommend what should be carried? I am looking for:
types and sizes and lengths of dot air line
any fittings that should be carried
any splices that should be carried.
I just basically want to put together a kit that may get me off the side of a road or out of a campground to a repair facility, not rebuilding the air system.
I would appreciate any advice on what to carry.
Thanks,
Kevin
Kevin,
I carry spares. I have plastic line on my bus and its not expensive to pick up a couple of each fitting and ferule to throw in the tool box. In many years I don't remember ever needing them but I have air and fuel line on board for an emergengy. Once I did break a line on my hydraulic fan, but it was a service port and I just put a plug in it when the sun came up and kept rolling. So some pipe plugs may come in handy,
My Model 20 had an air starter factory option and when it was replaced I removed and kept the lines and fittings and threw them in the tool box for emergencys.
Years ago when the plastic line first came out I did some weldiing repairs on a unit and melted about 10 holes in the air lines around the frame. I put super glue into the holes instead of cutting the lines all up and using splices and as far as I know its still holding, so you may want some super glue in the tool box too!
