Title: Front door vents on a102a3
Post by: paul102a3 on July 15, 2009, 03:08:43 PM
I just got around to removing the inside door panel of our 102a3 to find the source of an annoying rattle. The door panel is a thin, one piece affair with no insulation. Much to my surprise, the outside door skin itself has no insulation as well.

Fixing the rattle is no big deal (a small spring to stop the door latch from moving will solve that) but I have two questions about insulating the door, has anyone spray foamed the inside of the door or is there a better way and the second question is about the vents in the lower outer door skin which are open to the outside but hidden by the outside trim molding.

Looking at a fuzzy photo of the original door in my book, it appears cabin air was to enter the inner door skin about half way up and be exhausted out the bottom vents on the outside door skin. If this is the case, the converter eliminated the ability of the cabin air to enter the door so the outside vents seem to be redundant.

Any advice as to close them up or leave them alone. As an aside, I have a lot of wind noise from the door and I am trying to minimize this to keep the boss happy. If the vents can be closed up, that will one less area to worry about.

Now that I am thinking about it, anyone ever adjust a door on a 102a3 to get a better seal? It appears that there are a lot of adjustments at the center hinge as well as the lower one.

Thanks.
