Hi Everyone,
I need to replace my engine temperature sensors on my 79 MC-5C which has a 6V-71 detroit. I think its a great time to drain the cooling system while I'm at it. My maintenance manual suggests a ethyulene glycol base antifreeze and I was going to dilute it 50% with distilled water. I will drain the system by the listed drain plugs listed in the manual. My questions are: my manual does not say anything about flushing the system, should I? Any recommendations of a good type of antifreeze and dilution ratios? Should I replace my thermostat's? I appreciate any suggestions and recommendations.

I would check to see what condition the old coolant is before tossing it. What color is it? Were the stats working OK before? How clean is the old coolant? Flushing sometimes causes all kinds of leaks to appear. Follow "Da Book". If it isn't broke.......you know the rest of the story.

I agree with Paul, every time I've flushed an old cooling system I found some new leaks so I don't do that any more unless there is a major cooling problem.
Note what the manual says about bleeding all the air from the system once it is filled with coolant.
