I think you guys will remember me I hope any way all the trouble i had trying to deal with the bus I bought.
Well I drove it out of the yard yesterday and took it to the shop to get a state inspection. I got there and found a new set of chores to tackle. The puppy that the wife got last summer has had a time teathing on any wire it could get to under the bus. The head lights and front turn lights don't work now but I see the wires hanging down and it will be a easier fix than what i have been dealing with.
I still am not happy with the power from the engine Not sure if it is set up right I assume I will have to take it to the Detroit shop before it is all over.
Is Dallas still in TEXAS?????
It have been a busy year and I now have the in-laws (78 & 81) living with me hoping things will slow down and I can get some thing done to the bus before too long. I do have tags and insurance on it now and hope to have inspected soon. Then if I can get it to run better i might just get it out a little after the 100 degree days go a little further away.
Bob
Yep, Bob, I'm still in Texas.
Call me tomorrow at ate43.for96.917six
Hi Bob, This is great news! You will be able to bring it to TBR this time! ;)
Paul
HEY
Is the TBR rally only for Texas Buses or do you take imported buses like from Mexico as in NEW Mexico
Might just have to cross the border for that one -- did not mean to hijack this thread
Congratulations on moving the bus --- keep it moving
Melbo
Melbo, Information is in the Calendar section. Come on over!
Paul
Bob, congratulations. We had turbocharged 6V53's in some 30-foot city coaches when I was GM on a property, and they were enough power for that use. If yours doesn't have a turbo, that may be an option. However, if I recall from almost 25 years ago, the turbos were sometimes a maintenance problem. Yours is a bigger/heavier bus than those TMC Citicruisers, so you might be getting all you expect.
I'm on my way out of town for the next 10 days. My business has been quite slow, so if you want, I may be able to come over to Ft. Worth and visit sometime in late July/early August. If it works out, I have a friend who's a retired GM field engineer, and a consummate bus guy, who may want to come along.
My internet connection will be very spotty while travelling, so it may be a while before I get to look at the board again.
(Dallas, thanks for your answer - when I read this I looked out my window, and there are still buildings across the railroad tracks, so the City of Dallas is still there.... must have been very late to confuse me that much).
Arthur
I am afraid that I might be getting all there is but I want to check. I know there is a little problem with some thing. Dallas seams to think I might have a stopped up fuel filter after only driving about 3 miles but i am not sure.
I want to check the fuel pressure and the governor settings to make sure before I give up on it.
I is slow to accelerate and does not seam to wind up all the way when under a load. I don't think I got it going over 35 mph when I drove it to the shop to get it inspected. I still have not got that done as i have too many wires chew-en in to for it to pass. I am going to have to work on it some be get that all working again. Then kill a dog or should I do that first?
Bob
only kill the dog if you admit that you can't outsmart it... it's in their nature to eat interesting things of all types. wiring is easy to fix but time consuming... I have to ask, why did you take it for an inspection when you knew it wouldn't pass? Wouldn't you check things like the lights before you took on off to the inspection? I'm suddenly more worried about the prospects for the pooch...
I hope the engine worries work out for you. My biggest fear is a bad engine problem!
Brian
Bob,the first thing to check is the shut down if it is stuck in between shut down and run you will have those symptoms.
A 6v53 will not win a pulling contest but in Texas on flat ground it should do fine.
A friend of mine has 6V53 in a 37 ft Eagle 04 and he goes down the road fine.
I'll be at Pauls TBR and I'll bring a few tools and help you out if you like
good luck
Bob also has old fuel and only one filter on his engine. From his explanation on the phone, it sounds as if the black slime may have gotten into or past the filter and into the tiny little filters on the injectors.
Bob, before you stop by down here, try to look and see which filter housing you have on your engine.. it'll be stamped on the top. Either Primary or secondary. Lacking that, get the filter number and I can figure it out from there. I have a couple of extra filter housings I can let you have if you need them. Also try to dump the filter and see what comes out of it and what the inside looks like.
If I can get away from here, maybe I can come up and help you on your coach one of these days soon.
Dallas
I hava the city on me about the bus not being inspected.
I checked every thing about a month back when I first got the insurance to get it inspected. I only had one light not working then. I found the wire that had been bit then and fixed it I think the dog liked the taste of the new tape she did it again along with the wires I taped it up to and the cross member i taped them too.
So I got under the bus once more to fix them and I noticed as I got out she was alreacy pulling on the wires. I tried to discourage her with no effect. I talked to the owner of the shop and he said I could park it out side his fence in a concrete paking lot and work on it there until I could get it ready to pass.
While I was gone trying to move the inlaws down for three weeks in june the wonderful lady at the city only wrote 15 tickets for from $160 - $265 each, sure was nice of her to wait until I left for 3 weeks. I should not have told her and ask her to give me the time to deal with it when I got back. And she took advantage of the fact I was gone to herrrass more than normal. Funny how they will not say any thing to your face but mail the tickets in the mail certifed when they know you will not be there to recieve them and then knowing you were out of town try to get into the yard to tow it away. If it had not been where it was behind three other vichles and a locked gate and a 6 ft privicy fence with dogs they might towed it.
Really makes you want to live in the shity.
Don't you just love hateful county officials! There's room in Hunt County for another bus, and I haven't met a passive aggressive dysfunctional so-and-so here yet. God! I hope I didn't jinx myself. ;)
We had good luck with tobasco to keep a puppy from chewing on the antique furniture. I m sure some texas habenoro might work.
sorry to hear about the city, i guess there looking for revenue wherever they can.
Still glad to see you back
I am afraid of that texas habenoro. I would probally get it on my hands next time i worked on the bus and have it all in my sweaty face and eyes and wind up in the hospital the way that stuff can burn some people.
