Title: OK so I have figured out how I am going to plot my bathroom...
Post by: Oregonconversion on June 30, 2009, 12:30:07 PM
My brother had an ingenious idea for my MC8 and I think I'm running with it!

The bathroom is going to be 5'X6' with a hallway on the side. The toilet and the very cool all glass sink will go againsed the wall where I blocked off the windows.

The idea is that the ENTIRE bathroom will be the shower. You turn on the water, and it rains from the ceiling. With a sloped bathroom floor, the water will just drain in the middle. Ever seen this before? The toilet and sink are both waterproof and I can even put a curtain in so they will not get splashed when the water is on. Then I will put a lip and a curtain leading to the hallway so water will not escape.

It should not be that hard to do and it will save SO much room in the bathroom rather than having a shower with separate walls. The only issue I see with this is the wet bathroom floor after Someone takes a shower. I can deal with this... I would rather have a larger bathroom, and it will look really cool being all natural stone tile.

Here is the sink I got off fleebay for $330

As far as the bathroom, maybe something like this. I really like the pebble seat.

Personally, I don't care for a wet bath but they were pretty common in smaller RV's.  You can find covered toilet paper holders at RV sources.  You need to think about where you will keep dry towels and bathroom accessories, how to protect electric outlets for a hair dryer etc.

The glass sink is cool but keep an eye on your weight. Glass, stone, tile etc. are very heavy.

It's a common arrangement in smaller boats as well. I considered it for a long time for the bus, but decided against it in the end as the supposed extra space didn't counteract the downsides. My bus is only intended for 'weekend' use, so at the planning stage I tried very hard to minimise the floorspace taken up by my bathroom. I thought I'd made it as small as I dared, but now the walls have been built it has turned out to be more spacious than expected - especially as the 'standard-sized' shower enclosure in the bus actually gives more space than the one in the house, due to the way that the walls of my bus are curved.

My advice would be that's it's probably not worth trying to be too clever with your bathroom design - the extra space is probably less valuable than you think.

I have a bathroom that is separate from the hallway to the bedroom (not a walk through).  This has the advantage of being able to walk to the back when one or two are in the bathroom.  I also have a 36"x36" separate shower with its' own door into the hallway.  This way one person can be showering, and when done can go through open the door to the hallway, or if no one is in the bathroom, exit the shower stall that way.  Then when someone is in the shower, another person can also use the toilet or sink in the bathroom.  I highly recommend you NOT use a wet bathroom.  Basically, that makes the bathroom a one at a time only use.  With the separate shower stall, two can use the bathroom at the same time-really makes a big difference.  I'm doing another conversion now, and the bathroom is going to be the same.  Good Luck, TomC

How does that sink attach to the floor and wall?  Will it handle an emergency stop?  That would be a mess flying  through the air/somebody in an accident.

A very interesting idea, one that I had never heard of in a coach or thought of. I like the sink!

In 2001 I built a full wheelchair access wet bathroom in a bus
for a guy in a wheelchair. Wheel in close the curtain and shower anywhere.
Even had the toilet and sink in there all with rails and handles.
The drain was in the center of the floor and all angled for the water
to drain even if the coach was not level.

I used the fiberglass surround sheets from lowes all glued to the walls
with grabit glue for bathrooms. Fixtures were anchored with nylon blind
pop-in ( grappler ) sets.

An intriguing idea.  How do you plan to deal with the wet toilet seat after a shower?  Not to mention things like lights, electric shavers, hair dryers . . .and where will you put the towels?

My setup is simple -- my bathroom is about the same size as yours, but I have a Jacuzzi tub with one of those curved shower curtain rods.  The curtain actually goes out above the toilet, and my washing machine is on the other side of the toilet, facing the door.

Dr Dave - do you have a link to these grapler sets? I want to take a look at them.

Tenor- it is connected to the floor by a metal pipe. I am going to put it in the front corner to use the wall for some more support. I'm sure I will figure out some more support as well.

As far as the towells and TP I plan on having a curtain that will cover the sink and toilet when using the shower.

OC,

Just curious, How many will be traveling with you?

I have the same or similar setup as TomC.

But I also travel with a minimum of 4 and full access to everything all the time is important.

I learned a lot from the Class "C" years

Most of the time 2 including me. Sometimes we may have 1 or 2 guests.

Oh... And my dog Molly.

If I ever want to make the bathroom for 2 I can seperate the shower with a curtain.

They looked like these, I think I got them at home depot or lowes?
