Title: off and running
Post by: busshawg on June 26, 2009, 07:56:51 AM
Well I guess we're haeding off on our first real trip with the bus tomorrow. We plan on running about 3000 miles. I'm a little nervous about it, or maybe more worried about the better half not being the better half if we break down, haha. Anyway I want to thank all of you for making this dream possible as I'd still be pulling my hair if it wasn't for you guys. So thanks, and if we break down I'll cuss you guys then , haha , just kidding.

Grant,

May the road always be a gentle slope down hill..........:)

Is your itinerary a secret or did I miss a post somewhere?      :)

Well we have completed our trip and are back home. Would rather still be on our trip. Had a great trip, we left our house in Manitoba and went to the London , On area. We travelled I-94 from Fargo to Detroit and on the way home we traveled through the U.P. .  The bus did surprising well on fuel although I haven't figured out exactly what it did. The old 8V didn't use a quart of oil on the whole trip. We had 2 minor issues. I took a hard right in Porter In to get into a fuel stop and that's when I discovered the stopper bolt on the steering axle was broken and our steer tire cut the bottom chamber of the air bag. The compessor could keep up so I ordered a air bag from MCI and they sent it to the campground we would be staying at in London and we continued on. Fed Ex delivered the airbag and we fixed it. Then on the way home we had a battery go bad. No big deal , it was a great trip and I wish we were still on it. Three weeks and we're off to Sturgis.

Busshawg,

You need to get a hoist, some tools and a friend or two and get that 8V out of the back of your bus immediately!!!

You can't trust that motor... what are you thinking???

A quart in a couple thousand miles??? Should be a script to a twilight zone episode!!!

Just kidding... glad you had a great trip. Now I have leakless motor envy. Thanks Alot.

pretty good hug Rick?? I think I got very lucky. Just bought the bus with no idea of the engines history. Once I had teh bus home I went through some note books recording the maintance history and found a receipt for an engine rebuild only about 35,000 miles prevoisly. I'm thinking I just got real lucky. I'm sure it will start leaking in short order, hec it didn't even get my toy box dirty!

Glad to hear ya had a pretty easy trip. Nice to not have to wash the trailer either!! Just remember that a side benefit of pulling a toad behind a Detroit is the free rust proofing!  :D :D I'm not doing the Sturgis deal this year. Saving up for next spring's planned trip to Bike Weeks in Daytona. Have a good time. Later
