Title: Clearance light causing a short? UPDATE!
Post by: grantgoold on June 25, 2009, 10:44:41 AM
Well as prompted by this board, I looked into the clearance light issue. Here is what I found:

I was able to isolate the clearance circuit to pole #15. This pole was permanently linked to pole #16. I removed the wires one at a time from pole #15 and the breaker still reset. I then reattached all the wires which are designated for the front and rear clearance lights. I then removed the the wires from pole #16 (side clearance lights) and the same thing! Circuit breaker continued to reset.

Finally, I noticed that there was a final wire that went between pole #16 and the 6amp breaker for the aisle under seat lights. Given I have removed all the seats, indirect lights, and reading lights, I decided to sight clear all of these breakers are their wires.

The wire running from pole #16 clearance to the 6 amp breaker was removed and there was the problem. No more reset. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The clearance lights are shinning bright again. Of course it helps to clean them every once in a while.

Thanks for the great information!

Yip I have cleaned all my clip light lenses makes a difference :) Funny how the dirt gets inside the lenses even with a gasket under them. Glad you found the gremlin. Our English cars are easy to fix electrically you just look for the smoke leaking out of your Lucas wires. We always carry a can of Lucas smoke for a refill.
