Title: how do you resize pictures with vista ? And trip delay for mechanical problems
Post by: mikelutestanski on June 25, 2009, 09:54:07 AM
Hello:
On the road with a new to me laptop with vista . Not having much getting any pictures of the bus onto the board because VIsta is not helpful to me at least.  Anyone know how to resize pictures  with Vista?   My old laptop had xp but the keyboard and battery are shot so I only use it when I absolutely have to.
In Washington Pa at the moment and internet service is at my sons house.
Washington is south of Pittsburg pa..
Anyway as an update we have a leak at the injector pump which was predicted last January by a mechanic who was at Jacks rally.  He said the seals will go it is just a matter of time;  well we have the evidence at hand on the ground. Pittsburg power is located in Saxonburg north of the city and they will rebuild the pump for $550 if I bring it in. So that job is on the docket for the next few days.   While we are waiting we will checkout the local fireworks..
Owning a bus is fun..  just bring lots of money...
Anyway i will endeveor to post some pix of the paint job when i can..
     Regards and happy busssin  mike

Mike,
  Sorry don't know Vista.......

Taking the pump to pburg power..............you wouldn't be getting a little boost on the side would ya?????
Not that money matters to a bus........take a look at the turbos they are pushing as replacements to stock.

   Good luck

   Skip

Hello;
Skip: yes a boost from 270 to 300 is contemplated  however the Allison B400R is rated at 270 h p860 ft lbs  net and 295 hp gross  910 ft pounds.  I have yet to find out what that actually means.
Maybe some of the engineering types will know?
Allison officially said don,t do it but the latest version is rated at 300 I believe.   Maybe that was a dealer mistake so I hesitate to go to 300.
BK   my budget is not into the big engine stuff. This little L10 is what er are working with at the moment.  We will be up into Minnesota next month and maybe in august we will swing your way.
    Regards and happpy busssin   mike

Mike,

Since we are mature adults here I'll let you in on a little secret.......just because you have 300hp doesn't mean you have to
use it.

According to their lit some of the high HP transformations have tranny's that spec out at a lot lower torque range. basically
no pedal to the metal from a standing take off.

Rumor has it MPG will increase if judiciously driven.

Mike,

You resize pictures in Vista the same way you did in XP.

Vista and XP are both operating systems -- neither one, by itself, can manipulate images.  To resize photos, you need to use an application program.

Both XP and Vista ship with two application programs that deal with images.  One is the Windows Image Viewer, which is what typically launches by default when you click on an image file.  This program can only display images, not manipulate them.  Another is Microsoft Paint, which is an extremely rudimentary graphics program.  Paint will resize images.

I recommend you download one of the many free image viewers out there which support manipulations such as resize, resample, rotation, and adjustment of such things as brightness, contrast, and gamma.  I like Fastone, but also use XnView and Irfanview, all free.  There is also GIMP, which is both free and open source, but that seems to me more difficult to use for most people.  My wife swears by Google's Picasa, but I don't care for the way it stores its files, and I don't trust Google, which has a habit of watching too many things too closely.  Search on any of those names to find free download sites.

This is what I do on Vista, open picture, right click, hover over Open Picture With, select Microsift Office Picture Manager. Once up, go to top of toolbar, click on Picture, you will see RESIZE. It's should be already there, no download.

Paul, that only works if you have Microsoft Office (which does not come with Vista, although some OEMs may package it with their machines) installed.  Since MS Office Standard is a $400 product, I did not mention it -- if you happen to have it already, that's great, but I suspect many here do not.

BTW, for anyone who needs the functionality of an office suite but does not want to pony up the bucks, "OpenOffice" is absolutely free and does everything MS Office does.  It even opens most MS Office files such as Excel workbooks and Word documents.  I discussed this and other free tools that we use here:

In vista the best resizer that I found was Prish Resizer.  If you Google for it there are free downloads and it also saves your original picture and puts the new one in a resizer file.  Only takes one right click on picture and tell it what one of i think 3 sizes to save.
