I have a CD 7000 genset. I need to change the oil. The book says 10w-30w Mil- L-2140C or APO CC/CD/CE grade. A lot of folks say don't worry about it just put in some 10w-30w it will probably be fine. I do not want "probably" so I am looking for the correct oil. I cannot find anything but API oil and none is CC/CD/CE grade.
Thanks in advance!
How old is the generator? I assume that CC/CD/CE refer to grades of oil that are obsolete. We are now up to CJ4 oil. Oil is supposed to be backwards compatible.
The generator is a 2001 model.
Thanks.
Charles, my Kubtoa calls for C4 rating and I use Chevron Delo 400 the specs you have are a miltary
good luck
Thanks, I am going to call Power Tech in the morning and ask them.
Charles, good enough is any multigrade or straight weight depending on temps. rotella or dello or any diesel rated oil. I use straight 30 in My small kubota equipment in the summer and switch to multi in the winter. Regards john
I believe "APO" is a typo. "API" is the American Petroleum Institute, and the standards you mentioned (CC, CD, and CE) along with subsequent standards CF, CI, and CJ are all published by the API.
You should be fine with oil rated API CJ-4 and of the proper viscosity for your application.

I use easily obtainable 15w-40 in my 10kw Powertech-and that's what they recommend on the truck mounted units to keep with the same oil that trucks use. I also use 15w-40 in my Mercedes turbo Diesel-quite possibly the best oil made for 4 stroke Diesels. Good Luck, TomC
I spoke to a tech guy at Power Tech today and he said the only thing I needed to know is Rotella 15-40w. Thanks for the inputs.
