Title: 8V71 in a John Deere
Post by: Chopper Scott on June 19, 2009, 10:39:25 AM
A pretty sharp looking unit to say the least. I remember the days when farmers did some crazy stuff to get more hp.

I had to look twice at that picture.
We had a 4020 at a farm I worked at in the 70's that had been repowered with a 6V71T because the original engine had blown, the DD was sitting all lonesome in a wrecked truck bed, and being winter, the boss had to find something for idle hands to do.
I won't say it was a great puller after that, but it sure beat the heck out of what the 4020 4WD would do originally.

Later on, our neighbor bought a Versatile tractor that came originally with a Cummins 903. Later on he built it back as a 903VT and promptly started breaking equipment with it.

Luvrbus, I have a John Deere 440ICD crawler loader with a dd 2-53 that is 32 horsepower.  It has cleared just about 70 acres of north florida oaks and hickory's.  It is strong for such low horselower.  If I can I will get the wife to post a picture.  John

We have a John Deere 435 running around in our part of Michigan.   It came with a 2-53 DD and is neat sounding at tractor pulls.   Also Oliver used DD's in some of their older tractors.(990 etc.)

there are 2 Olivers that pull at the Florida Flywheelers Antique Tractor Pulls that have DD engines.  The 2-53 is governed at 3400 and the 3-53 is governed at 3600.  No matter where you are in the park, you know when those tractors make their run.  Boy, do they sound sweet!  Jack
