Title: Allison 754 capacity in gallons??
Post by: RickB on June 17, 2009, 01:09:07 PM
Hey all,

I can't remember the capacity of my tranny. I am trying a last possible solution to my minor tranny slippage issue before pulling the whole thing and rebuilding it. I am gonna try 15/40 rotella in my transmission and I am going to change the internal filter as well in hopes that the thicker lubricant will bring more pressure to bear on the 2nd gear clutch pack. There has been intermittently minor slippage going on since I bought the bus, it is a 2nd gear start 754. The tranny fluid smells normal and there are no shavings in the tranny pan. So I'm hoping to get lucky and either gain some significant time before a rebuild or maybe a cure altogether.

Thanks,

rick

Rick, depending on the oil pan size it will take from 8 gals to 10 gals    good luck

Thanks... Man I hope I don't have to have this thing rebuilt.

Rick - Maybe manually controlling it and starting off in low might help to prolong it's life? FWIW

Niles,

I have been trying the manual shift idea but it is hard to get into a rhythm with the tranny doing that. It doesn't like it much but I am trying to learn. It sure would be better to do anything major to this transmission next winter as opposed to prime Midwestern camping weather.

We are headed to the Black Hills next week and I am hoping that this change to 15/40 helps.

Thanks for the input,

Rick
