Title: Magnetic Windshield?
Post by: MattC on June 15, 2009, 11:46:49 AM
Late last year the wife and I drove from Alaska, wandered about the lower 48 for a couple months and finally settled in Texas.  During that trip we didn't so much as come close to hitting anything bigger than a dragonfly with our windshield.

I just spent four days on the road and must ask;  Is it me, or are bus windshields magnets for critters?

I had a fatal encounters with a Bat, next some small raptor (falcon?) and finally what I hope was road kill (brown and furry) on my drivers windshield.  I can't imagine the bus being invisible, so what gives?  Is this common, or is mother nature telling me something?

By The Way, The lightening bugs were cool, in a morbid sense.

Add some RainX to the windshield, the little buggers will slide right off. That's what Iv'e heard anyway, do not have real experience as we don't have any bugs here in Texas! ::)

I'm guessing you don't own a motorcycle. If you want to see how big bugs get you need to spend some time in the saddle on a bike! :o  Later

Ones you only hit in the winter, you know on that 40 degree ride to work and just when your thinking man my face is frozen but at least there are no bugs then wham a super bug hits you right square in the kisser. They not supposed to be there these titanium exoskeletal som beaches that feel like you hit an eagle  ;D

Rick,
If you hit an Eagle, it wouldn't hurt... the rust would just melt around you!  ::)

Oops, Sorry, Paul and Cody.. I'm not really talking about you guys, you are almost as good as GMC guys!

Bee's getting splashed on the windshield make a fine mess.  Especially after you use up all your washer fluid.

Matt,

Sorry to inform you but the only rodent that gets to windshield height is the "Flying Squirrel".   Brown and furry!

The reason they all "hit" is that your windshield is the bottom of a velocity filter. ::)  See hoe effective those old oil bath jobbies were? :P

Hey Matt you should see our charter buses when they come in! Especially if we come in from the west up from Memphis thru AR and across the Mississippi river!
Our bus cleaner regularly asks me or the drivers "hey here'd this bus just come from?" When ya tell him he says "good that's where I wanna go fish'n this week-end, cause they dang sure ain't no bugs left there! LOL! ;D  BK  ;D

Bugs on the front of your bus!
This reminds me of a old Continental Trailways driver who was ask by a female passenger when she was awaiting for a inbound schedule what will be on the front of the bus when it get's to the loading dock? Note she was wanting to know what the destination sign would say! Wichita,Amarillo,Etc.
The old Continental Trailways driver reply was Bug,s lots of bug's.
Not quite what she wanted to hear but he was telling the truth.

I am curious, how do bugs know what part of the windshield to hit
so that their remains are exactly in the drivers line of vision.  The ones
most adroit at this are the ones that make the biggest splat.  It might be
that are distantly related to the Kamakazi pilots of WW 2.  Either way it is
usually "That's him all over" the windshield.  Just my .01 1/2 cents worth
