Title: Great Adventure is about to begin!
Post by: JackConrad on June 13, 2009, 03:08:47 PM
Our long planned trip is about to begin. We plan to leave about 6:30 AM on Monday and go to the Dr. for our annual physicals. When we walk out of the Dr. office, we will get in the bus and head North. We plan to be gone about 5 months and visit about 14 states. We will rarely travel further than 250-300 miles a day. Our first stop will be at Bushnell, Fl to visit with NCBob and help FLCracker install a couple windshields. From there we will head to Fred Hobe's and hopefully install an integral steering in our bus. From there, we will head up towards Montgomery, AL and then to Huntsville area to visit a couple busnuts. From Huntsville, we hope to stop by Union City to see BK and then on to Calvert City, Ky to visit another busnut. After that visit, we will continue on to Springfield, ill to visit family.
When we leave Springfield, we plan to stop in Elkhart for a couple days before meeting friends in MI. After touring MI, we plan to visit friends in Ohio, then on to WV, VA, NC, SC, & GA before returning home in mid November.
I will try to post our routes and we would love to stop visit or share an ice tea or coffee with any busnuts along our route.  Jack

Time with the Bushnell four is always great. Nice Jackie makes up for grumpy old bob. And a tour of the "barn" is great.

Well maybe even a day with bob and cliff is good also just don't let them know. They might get the big head.

PS we will be keeping up with your trip  may meet some where this summer if i can get "momma" started.

Uncle Ned you could meet up with them here! Or would you prefer to "loan" them your spot under the big oak tree?

Jack & Paula you are most welcome here at anytime. Keep us posted as to an aproximate ETA so I can be sure to stick around while you are here! By the way we are only an hr from Calvert City, KY and you are more than welcome to invite the CC busnuts here for a visit. That goes for any busnuts who want to stop in while Jack & Paula are here (or any other time), maybe we could have a mini non-rally!
;D  BK  ;D

PS Cody you and Libby have a spot here too!

We arrived at NCBob's yesterday afternoon. We had a nice visit with Bob, Miss Jackie, and FLCracker (Cliff) last evening. Julie had a guitar lesson and could not join us. Unfortuanately, Bob had to take Miss Jackie to the ER this morning, we are waiting to hear how she is doing.
I hope to help Cliff change his windshields this afternoon. We will probably move on to Fred Hobe's tomorrow. From there we will meander up through AL to Hazel Green. From Hazel Green, we will probably go to BK's (BK, I will let you know as soon as we know what day we will be at your place).  Jack

If you get up that far at the right time, there's a combined Converted Coach Owners/Great Lakes Converted Coaches rally in the Flint MI area Aug 13-16. Early in Aug 12.

Both groups hold club meetings at Arcadia at New Year's.

"Back to the Bricks" Flint car show and lots of other stuff going on and available.

$13 a night, $13 a person.

Ed & Janet Roelle and Bob Shafer are hosting it.

I have the flyer and contact info for anyone that needs it.

I think we were at Olympic time with about 1 1/2 hours from start of removal to the last piece of bead lock/finish.

I will post some pictures in another thread.

Hope all is going well with your trip. We so Enjoyed having you as our guests and look forwward to your return in the fall.

A quick update on Miss Jackie. Her kidneys, a new trick, almost shut down so they force fed her liquids with IV's for two days. When I was there yesterday they were taking her for an MRI and we won't know the results of that until today. She's in good spirits but her legs are weak. Looks like a couple more days before she can think about coming home.

Thank you all for the well wishes and thanks to Cody for the PM inquiry.

Jack,
If you are back in North Caroline around the first of October, CCEA is having a no frills rally in Morehead City for the North Carolina Seafood Festival.  It is the first weekend in October and the rally site is within five city blocks of the festival site.  It is dry camping on asphalt.  I have space for 15 coaches, so I need to know who is coming, but there is no registration fee.  Nothing is planned until the group convenes on site.  Look up the North Seafood Festival on line.  It is billed as the second largest festival in North Carolina.  Hope you could come.  By the way it is real near a fire station so you can hear the sirens.

We are visiting busnut friends in Hazel Green, AL and have met more busnuts.  Wayne Ellenburg and his wife stopped by for a nice visit (thanks for those great peaches).  Wayne has 2 Eagle buses.  Joe Wallace also stopped by for a very nice visit. Joe is converting a GMC 4107.
We are going to the Space Museum today and head to Kentucky tomorrow to see another busnut friend that recently lost his wife. From there we will go to Central Illinois. Always great to meet other busnuts.  Jack

2 campgrounds that I can recommend are Ft. Toulouse State Historical Site near Montgomery, AL and Canal Campground (COE) near Calvert City, KY (Land Between the Lakes).  Both parks have 50 amp & water with a dump station.  Ft. Toulouse was $11.00 and Canal was $10.00 (with Golden Age Pass).
We are in Springfield, IL visiting family, then on to Elkhart and a bus rally in MI.  Fuel seems to be staying around $2.50 along our route so far.  Jack

Jack is that what they now call the COE campground at KY Lake Dam? Not that I know anything at all about KY Lake or anything, but I believe that the campground is actually served by the Gilbertsille post office and would show up as Gilbertsville, KY 42044. I ain't possitive on this though, as I googled it and none of the locations show the correct spot for the campground I am thinking of just off the KY Lake Dam!

Jack's Great Adventure Part M(ichigan) is departing today from home in Dearing, GA.

We will visit friends in Chattanooga this afternoon/evening and spend the nite in Ohio somewhere tomorrow nite.  We should be in Sanford, MI by the 4th of July.  Gonna travel the Big Road to MI(no fun).  Can't wait til OBS II gets there so we can start the Michigan Adventure.

We are hooking up with my Brother-in-Law, and Jack & Paula in Sanford.  From there to Old Orchard Park near Oscoda, from there to somewhere near The Bridge.  Then across The Bridge to Paradise.  From Paradise back across The Bridge to Betsy, Beulah, Sleeping Bear Dunes.  A personal guided tour of a Great Lake's Car Hauler in Ludington, MI.  Brother-in-Law worked on it when he was 19.  Staying at friends and relatives houses and a couple of campgrounds along the way.

Taking our time and seeing the sites where ever we hunker down.

Lonnie,

To answer your question -

The CCO Club - Converted Coach Owners - will welcome you.   Harold and Robbie Green have offered their acreage for the dry camping rally, July 10-12.   Bill and Barb Hosteter are hosting the rally, around "Elsie Days", a town festival.   RSVP Bill and Barb at 616-896-1817.

There are basically 2 bus conversion clubs that encompass Michigan and the surrounding states and Canada.   CCO is one of the oldest bus conversion clubs.  CCO is not affiliated with FMCA.  The other club is GLCC - Great Lakes Converted Coach - which is affiliated with FMCA.

Bob Shafer and I are hosting the August Rally, "Back to the Bricks" (car show plus much, much, more !!) that you noted, on August 13-16.   We are hosting it for both clubs, and other interested bus nuts.

We had a nice visit with family in Illinois and are now sitting in the Elkhart Campground.  We plan to hit the RV surplus stores the next couple days to see what we can find that we did not now we could not live without. Then on to Elsie, MI for a CCO bus rally next weekend.  Bus is runing good, just a small oil leak (2 quarts in 1300 miles), but I still do not have to worry about the Toad rusting  LOL.  Jack

Hey Jack if ya find any great deals on 24 volt inverters I'd be interested in about 6 of them! Let me know I can get you the $ ASAP or send it directly to the outlet, then I can decide on whether to have them shipped by USPS, UPS, or C & L DS! LOL!
Seriously I am wanting to put some large inverters on the buses for use rolling down the road not while parked!
