with the switch on you shud have voltage at the buffer sw if it is not two level. If it is a two level does it work on either level. Also you shud have voltage at the buffer sw either way . Jerry

If I had any experience with jakes I would swing down there and help you myself.

If you don't mind coming up to Marana ACH repair has done right by me with all my bus drive line needs. Call Wade Robertson he is the service manager: 520-682-4329 office 520-631-0437 cell. They don't seem to mind working on these old two strokes and they are reasonable.

Have the Jakes ever worked since you have owned the bus?  Are you sure you have Jakes?  A friend bought an Eagle conversion. It had a Jake Brake switch on the panel to the left of the driver that did not seem to work. An inspection of the engine compartment revealed the there were no Jakes installed on the engine (didn't even have the Jake Brake valve covers)  Jack

Hi Jack, 1st, we hope you and yours have a graet and safe trip.
We had Larry and Carrol Hall over the other day, he was loking at the 8v92 and said "hey, you got jakes". I told him that I had a s/w on the dash for them. He did not have his tools with him to check them out. He said it was prob. the wiring or s/w at the engine. Also said it appeared to be all there. He told me how to check for power at the s/w but I don't have a clue about this stuff. I sing and build houses. And I am a "Show me" learner. A dyslexia thing. We are heading into CO. MTNS come July and them Jakes would come in handy.  ;D All the Best, M&C

Try these guys the Jones' in Tucson @ 520-574-2818. I have a friend who was impressed at the work they did on his Eagle.I just repaired my High-Idle buffer switch, the plastic lever that actuates the Jakes micro switch broke. Jefferson has parts @405-2720213 ask for Norris.

To continue this discussion, I have a 8v71 and paid for the Jake installation when I bought by exchange engine from Diesel Exchange. I can not fathom that the switch at the dash cost more than about $5. So, I guess I am wondering if I have an operating Jake. I pretty much leave them on all the time. I had to have the tailgate mod so I know the Jake brake was installed. I guess I have never really gone down a hill and turned them off to see if I could tell anything.

Larry, $5 is about right for the dash switch it is the buffer switch that is expensive now since Jacob has stopped making the micro switches and the new style are costing from  over 200 bucks for the plain screw in type up to over 600 bucks for ones with a fast idle if you can locate new one.

good luck
