Title: Selling my coach....how much can i get for it?
Post by: ilyafish on June 12, 2009, 04:21:45 PM
Hey guys,

As sad as i am to write this post I am also excited.  As some of you know, our engine ran out of oil and the head cracked on our way to Orlando a little over a week ago.  At least I am assuming the head cracked based on talking to Bryce and some other fellas...we actually dont even have the finances to have a mechanic take a look at it, or to even get it towed to a mechanic.

Anyways, the bus is currently in Orlando.  We will be selling it because it has been a headache for us and we will be seeking donations and support from churches and missionary supporters to buy something that is more reliable.  I will have pictures of it in about 2 weeks, but here is as detailed of a description as i can think of.

1981 MCI MC9
6v92 in need of either in-frame rebuild or a new engine alltogether.
Transmission in good working order.
OTR A/C works great...however the heat  light has been staying on lately so it is not as ice cold as it used to be....possible bad temp sensor or temp control knob.  Checked all the relays and they seem to be good.  Definately a small fix.
Body condition is about a 7/10.  Previous owner was not the best driver and the bottom of the bays are dented in some places, as well as a dent in the drivers side rear corner (can be pulled out i am sure).
Brand new drive tires with lots of life left in them.  They are some form of snow tires or something....the treads are huge.  Steer tires and tags need to be replaced pretty much within the next 2k miles.
Needs alignment, and curb side steer tire has a bad bearing.
Needs new air bag on tag axle, drivers side.  With fast idle on it wont air up past 70 psi.
Electrical is cursed on the bus....faulty oil pressure, temperature guage, and speedometer is funky until you hit 25mph
Clearance lights will be working one day, next day half of them will be out, and the next day all working again.  Just rewired them all a few weeks ago too....possibly just bad housing mechanism?
Fast idle switch is sometimes funky

Interior:
2" minimum spray foam all the way around.
Roof is not raised.
Currently designed as an entertainer, but is nowhere near being finished...all plywood right now.
Rear lounge (unfinished), 6 condo bunks, shower floor base but no plumbing, fridge frame but no fridge, bathroom area has no toilet or sink or plumbing.  Basically everything is framed out and ready for upholstery/laminate/whatever but no appliances or plumbing or holding tanks or anything.
Has one roof air which was temporarily attached for the trip.  Coleman, not sure what model, 17,000 BTU's....no heat.
Assuming that next owner would rip everything back out except for the spray foam.
No genset or anything.

I will have pictures in like 2 weeks, i am just trying to see what I can possibly get for it.  I guess the biggest issue is that it is not driveable. Well, that and parting with your first coach hahaha.

Also, is scrapping a better option? Not sure how many pounds of steel are in it, and since the metals are not separated what we could get for it.  Thanks guys!

Sorry to hear of your situation. But sad to say you won't get much if the motor is shot. and not much more if it's running. Just too many on the market and it's just real sour right now. Unless you find the right buyer and you can come to a mutual agreement that satifies you both.

I hope something will work out for you guys.

Good Luck,

Paul

depending on where it's sitting right now, you may have to pay someone to haul it off.
Paul is right, the market for a used bus (running) is super soft.

Your list of "features" reminds me of the joke about a lost dog with missing leg, scars, been run over, etc, and "answers to the name of Lucky."

I wish we had better news for you, but you are trying to sell at the wrong time for the market (there are plenty of cheap, completed conversions available) and the wrong time in the project (where you have spent a lot of money but haven't gotten it salable).  I'm not even sure that parting it out would bring you much money.

Just to give you an idea, I have a running GMC 4903 in better shape, in California, and haven't been able to get a bite when asking $4500.

I'm close and can pay to have tow'd if that will get you out from under it! You won't have to worry about what it will cost you to fix it! I think you already know what the tow bill would be!
Let me know! Tow rig on standby!
