Title: Back up light switch on Spicer 4 speed
Post by: Tenor on June 11, 2009, 07:44:27 PM
Can anyone tell me where to find the switch on my tranny (spicer 4 speed) that triggers my back up lights?  My manual does not give a location.  Thanks!

Glen,

The switch is screwed into the right side of the top of the transmission.  It is located between the dipstick on the passenger side of the transmission and the reverse solenoid switch.

You will only see the "terminal side" of the switch.  The on/off button is actually on the inside of the transmission and is activated by the reverse rod when the transmission is shifted into reverse.  You will only see two terminals, usually with chrome screws that will hold electrical terminals.

I believe to see if the switch is operating the engine has to be running, the reverse solenoid switch held into the reverse activated position, and the shift lever in 1st(Reverse) shift position.  You will have to have a second person check the switch terminals, while you work the driver's seat, to see if the circuit closes.

Hope I made that clear.

I've got an old photo of my Spicer before I did the conversion to a V730.

I've attached the photo, the reverse switch is above the last "e" in the "reverse".

Thanks Chris!  Since mine is a "T" drive, I'd never have found that unless I crawled past the tranny and stood over the driveshaft (which I can do since I'm small! ;D )  I now suspect that the switch is there, but probably was not reconnected when the engine was swapped.  Most of my wiring was not completed.
