Probably not-but I would check the differential-since pulling one side only will still allow at least the spider gears to rotate-maybe the transmission a bit.  The only way to check is to reassemble everything and give it a try.  Good Luck, TomC

A new busnut/friend is a transmission specialist and when he asked me about towing these beasts i said that the onlt time I ever had mine towed they hooked on in front and took both axles out and he said" I wonder why they did that they only needed to pull one side". I will ask him why that is later today and get back to you.

Rick

By the way....Motor rebuilt??? whats up with that???  Sounds expensive

TomC is correct..........I used to rebuild Cat powershift to 16 speed automatics and an occasional allison.
It is not uncommon to pull just one axle for towing the big rigs. On my bus they disconnected the drive
shaft because I have chrome wheel covers and it was easier to disconnect than pull the covers off.

All of what Tom C said and more...the own way for differential's spider gears set to get lubed is one of two things.
1)   If oil level is already right at or barely flow out of plug's hole...that is good meaning the side gears are getting lubed to the spiders.
2)   If the oil level is very low and the drive shaft can rotate freely and barely rotate while driven for the ring gear to pick-up oil ....that is good....however it may never rotate.

Suggestion....Before you drive far away from home, remove differential's oil level plug and see if it has magnetic plug. If so...good and clean off the "factory" metal compound with air blow gun and reinstall it or otherwise get a magnetic plug. Now with oil level at bottom of plug's opening, drive for at least 15 miles (25 mi is better to get it very warmed) at 65 mph to stir-up anything that is metal compound within the differential. Again remove the magnetic plug to see if any more compounds are present on the magnet. If it is mostly clear....that is good news.

BTW...the tow-er is risking his/or business reputation for just for having one axle instead of the two removed or drive shaft disconnected.

Which model Monaco coach do you have?

Glad you have it home.

Sojourn for Christ, Gerald

BTW...Monaco is now sold to Navistar as of June 4, 2009 (http://ir.navistar.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=388148)
