Jack Conrad has a running takeout 8V71. I believe that he's only asking about $500? That would be without bell housing and related accessories.
Jack C will see this post and respond. If he stll has the engine??
The engine is listed on YouTube...I'll have to post a link. later.
May be able to 'searce' for 8V71
JR
Awesome, I hope he see's this post and still has it. I need to get'r back on the road ASAP and hopefully can build something better in the future.
There's a rebuilt 6-92 Turbo in Cortland, NY that I didn't buy last winter. I could probably track down a phone number for it if I really put my mind to it. "Terry" is the guy's name but that doesn't narrow it down a lot. Let me know if it is worth looking for the phone number.
How much work is involved in doing the swap? I haven't got a lot of time at the moment so i'm looking to just get it back on the road until I can build something a little more modern. Do you know how much he was asking?
Where in ND are you located? I live in MN now but used to live near Michigan, ND and I'm up that way periodically.
I'm from Jamestown but work anywhere West of HWY 281 and North of I-94... :-\
YmeHP -
Just a minor detail - what bus make/model are you in need of an 8V71 for?
Reason I ask is that one from an GMC will not work in an MCI , unless you want four speeds in reverse.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
As was mentioned, i have one for sale, unfortunately, it is in Southwest Florida. Let me know if you want more information. Jack
Emmett Jordan in NC may have one as well 910-309-4224
Jack,
Very interested, please send me an email at n_cichos@hotmail.com or pm me through the board with details. We will have to arrange payment and I suppose I will have to list it with Uship.
The bus is a '78 MCI MC8.
Try calling a guy named Rodney Monk in Fargo. his number is 701 seven nien nein seben tewe for ate.
He probably doesn't have one handy, but he has more connections than AT&T has phone lines. If there is a decent one nearby, he'll know about it.
Tell him Dallas told you to call, and no, you aren't a bill collector. LOL
Thanks Dallas,
I will try him tmw!
Today i heard there may be one in SD. Do you want me to find out about it?
FRed
Yes, if you would! Thanks
I'm curious if Rodney Monk was able to help?
I was going to have him look at doing some work on my bus, but he had some issues with the city of Fargo so he quit doing that kind of work.
Will a motor out of a cabover fire/utility truck work in a bus?
One from a truck will work for you may have to change a few parts from yours to the truck engine like the oil pan good luck
I have a 12V71 with a new 740 if that will help.
How about a 6v92 from a newer bus? What parts or mods would need to be made?
If you can buy one from a MCI with the cradle the only part you would need is a longer drive shaft the 6v92 is shorter than a 8v71
good luck
Thanks guys, I never knew how hard these things were to find!
The one in South Dakota is gone. But you might try Dan Holter at Rochester City Lines 800-368-4874 or Nimco in N.J. 800-526-8055.
Fred
There not really that hard to find, It finding one at the price you want to pay.
Jack has one down in Florida that would get you out of a bind and you know it was well maintained.
I sent you a pm
Don
try
http://www.westerntruckparts.com/products/ (http://www.westerntruckparts.com/products/)
They have 2 used ones at around 3500 plus core charge. plus shipping
You will have to change the pans. neither have jake brakes.

Keep in mind one from a truck is going to require a number of bolt on changes. The water pump/front motor mount is different, the alternator drive camshaft is different, the oil cooler and pump might be different and the rear flywheel/geartrain housing is probably different as well. All are bolt on changes, I"m sure and you already have all the right stuff.

Airhog;
what do you want for the 12V71. Is it a turbo or natural
Thanks
Don

Think we can get this in the back of huggy, may solve the heating problems
ned
hey, if you have the time and money we can do anything. I'm thinking t-drive with twin turbos at around 650hp. duel charge air's and rad's with there own hyd. fans Then you could haul a big trailer with all those bikes and your truck
What do you think
You can make anything work if you throw enough money at it... Jerry

We would have to add a axle to hold this monster up. Would it be a tag or a bogey.Inquiring minds want to know.
Still planning on going west this fall just don't know dates yet. momma has not told me the days yet.
uncle ned
Ned;
We could find a tag we could put duels on in the back and then find a front drive steer axle out of a military 6X and have a front wheel drive. If we set the engine under the bed should have room. You would be the first in your neighborhood to have one. Don't front wheel drives do better in the snow and ice. You know if we DDEC it, there are a couple 10Sp auto shifts
I have access to. make it a real go getter.
Don
Hello Don,
Don't let Uncle Ned pull your chain. We followed Ned and Wilma from Palmento Cove campground to Westminster, SC on HWY 11 and he didn't slow down on the hills. He was also towing his van and motorcycle so he has a lot of power ( more than me ). I would be hearing Huggy Bear's exhaust bouncing off the hills and see my speed start dropping and then I'd think, "change gears dummy! That's the sound of his engine, not yours." A fun day!

It is the story of a old hot rodder, never enough hp. Just think of 0ne of those 12v71 engines in the land speed record trucks in the back of huggy. Then we could really rock through the hill of north georgia.
Look forward to going to jacks this year with you and that beautiful mc5.
uncle ned
ps
Don has helped me with heating problems on huggy. WE met at BK'S several years ago.
Glen; What's in the back of you MC5 now. May be you need a 12V71 also he he
Man I gota get closer to you guys so we could play and make you go fast.
Don
Uncle Ned
Like you I've allways thought that you can't have too much power,a by-product of growing up in the 50s and 60s when horsepower was most important part of the car (and I still think that way). I sure would like make the trip to Jack's with you, if I can arrange the time. We'll talk more about it as the time gets closer. We may see you over the 4th at the Cove, we are going to try.
Glen
Hello Don,
I have a 8v71 natural with a 3.33 gear and 4 speed. The bus will fly on the flats, 80 maybe. I've never tried it,(a wife thing) you know. Ha Ha. Someday I'd like to add a turbo, but the engine only has (as all buses sold) 40,000 miles, so we'll see. Don do you think adding a turbo will help or hurt the fuel mileage? I'm getting 8 mpg towing a suzuki sidekick.
Glen
This one just popped up in Atlanta:

Glen,
We sure would love to have ya'll join us. Be sure to bring your guitar, there are a lot of pickers and a "Jammin' Tent". Jack
Still looking! I would like to find a replacement out of another MCI!
There is a 5 being parted out up in Edmonton. Look in the Spare Bus Parts section.
I have one that I took out of my MC7 just a couple of months ago. Ran fine, has a 4 speed manual, removed it to install an 8-92/auto. In the Tampa Bay area. Give me a call. 941-725-0636 cell. Ben
Also, it has about 10k miles on an inframe. Has cradle as well.
Speak to Zach at PC industries 877-855-4724 have your model # before calling they have used or rebuilt engines and are located in Afton Wy not to far from you
good luck
