I was just watching the noon news on our local Waco, TX station, and what appeared to my wandering eye?
It was an old video of a PD 4104 dressed out in Trailways livery delivering it's precious cargo of new privates to Ft. Hood.
Other than the fact that everyone of those boys was/is a hero in my eyes, there was one special person on board....
That's right. It was the King! Elvis Presley arrived at Ft. Hood on this day in history.
Now, maybe JLV or Runcutter can tell us which bus at TW had number 3614, and from the delivery list, what it's serial number was.
Maybe it's one of the ones that have been saved by a emeber here!
Dallas,
Unable to tell you which PD-4104 in the Continental Central Trailways (Wichita,KS) system it was.
Due to the the early PD-4104 being renumbered some time mid 50's.

That's kind of what I was thinking, since none of the coach numbers I have even look close to that.
It would be kind of neat to find an owner who had done a paint job and found the original number under the existing paint.
Speaking of which, I only found portions of my original number under the paint but I did find a big chunk of a Sante Fe RR advertising sign that had been used to rebuild the front end after a hit at one time.
I couldn't find a 4104 with anything near those company numbers.
However, on 01-07/62 Eastern Greyhound Lines, (Cleveland OH) bought 199 PD4106s with company numbers 3460-3659.
Since a 4106 looks almost exactly like a 4104 from many angles could if be one of these?
I thought of that too, but Elvis went into the service in 1956 or 1957 which would have to make it a 4104... large slanted windows and smaller bays. That also lets out the 4102/3's and the Scenics, (besides, no Scenics at TW).
I'm going to call the TV station today and see if they'll post the video on their website.

Just an update... I dug around on the KWTX website and found the video. http://www.kwtx.com/killeen You'll need to click on the little video that says, "Our Town Killeen, Elvis' Time In Central Texas". It's one of the small blocks under the video block.
Dallas,
I found some information as to the dates when Elvis was in Ft Hood, TX. ;D
During his active military career Mr. Presley served as a member of two different armor battalions. Between March 28 and September 17, 1958, he belonged to Company A, 2d Medium Tank Battalion, 37th Armor, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. During this assignment he completed basic and advanced military training.
Continental Central Lines. received 2 new PD4104,s in Jan of 1958 their fleet numbers were 3129-3130-S/N 3451,3452
Continental Central Lines. received 8 new PD4104,s in Feb of 1958 their fleet numbers were 3131-3138-S/N 3534-3541
So the PD4104 that Elvis could have been on might be one of the above coaches. ???

As bad as the video is and as bad as my eyes are, I would almost bet those are closer numbers than what I was reading.
Maybe one of our younger members with the eyes of an eagle could take a look and help make a more definitive determination.
Wish it was 3877 then maybe the wife would like it more.
