Title: Old/New Axle
Post by: Lin on May 15, 2009, 04:38:15 PM
I bought some parts from the family of a guy that, for the most part, I want to sell/trade for things that I need.  One of the things is a completely rebuilt front axle.  I am trying to identify what it will fit.  I was told that the man rebuilt it for a 1967, 40ft former Greyhound MCI that he was going to convert but never finished.  I know that the MC7 came into service around 1968, so maybe it was for one of those.  Did I mention the project was abandoned between 15 and 20 years ago after he was in a serious accident?  Anyway, details about the bus it was for are very vague, and it has long since been junked.  This axle is designed to have four front airbags.  Do MC7's have that?  What about MC6's (although the measurement between the drums is about 76 inches, which I thought may not be wide enough for a 102" wide.  Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

Not sure, but I think the MC7,8 & early 9s all used the same front axle. Yes, they do have 4 air bags on trhe front axle.  Jack

Thanks for the info, Jack.  I have it, a 740 transmission, and a radiator over at Don Fairchild's yard in Bakersfield.   I think that is enough information for someone to see if it works for them if I include some pictures.
