Title: Oil Seal for Axle Shaft
Post by: qayqayt on May 15, 2009, 09:34:29 AM
Our Transit Museum has a 1947 Fageol Coach.  We need a 7 stud oil grease seal for the right side axle shaft.  Any thoughts on how I might find one?

If it's just for the axle end-make it.  Good Luck, TomC

Like Tom said, ball pein hammer and some gasket paper is the way the old timers did it.

It's made of very thin sheet metal with a bit of a lip on it.

Can you get a picture of the part? I'm not sure if you mean the axle shaft cover gasket or the oil seal at the back of the hub. What you describe sounds like a speedy sleeve.
What company manufactured the axle? maybe we could go from there? And if you have a parts book, or even off the parts themselves, it would sure help.
