Title: B500 tranny and 12 volts versus 24 volts
Post by: belfert on May 14, 2009, 11:09:31 AM
My B500 tranny has a 24 volt WTEC II ECU and a 24 volt relay box next to the WTEC II (VIM maybe?).  Does anyone know if other parts like the sensors and selenoids within the tranny and the shift pad are 24 volt?  I have been told my particular WTEC II ECU can be 12 volt or 24 volt.

I'm thinking about doing a rewiring to 12 volt of my bus.  I'm starting to see some electrical problems that Dinas are famous for.  There is another forum member here who owns a Dina that has been rewired to 12 volt.  That bus was rewired by a previous owner so the current owner can't help me.

mine is a wtec III but the manual says you can use either 12 or 24. Mine came out of a bus with 24 and I installed it in mine which is 12 with no modifications and it works fine

Belfert,
I am sure you are past the starter, blower & defrost motors, and marker lights which will need to be converted if migrating to 12V. I am interested in what electrical problems you have encountered with the Dina wiring?

I still lurk & look at the MCI F 3500's, but am hesitant to spent the money and unsure of the amount of problems with wiring.

Thanks and Good Luck

My electrical problems are relatively minor so far.  Bad grounds in dash causing issues with gauge lighting, electrical problem with one wiper, and short in tail light and marker light wiring.

The tail lights we fixed by wiring them to constant on for now.  The lower side marker lights on the right side don't work right now.  I'm finally getting around to trying to fix that.

Busted Knuckle has reported that rear lighting issuse are not uncommon in Dinas.  One charter operator ran new wire for his rear lighting.

I'm thinking after looking things over closer that rewiring this bus wouldn't be such a good idea.  I would probably have to pull the engine because they zip tied a whole crap load of wire bundles where I could never get at it with the engine in.
