Hello everyone,
I have a question about the steering wheel on my 1976 5B. I want to change it from the original one to one that is more
comfortable, and update the appearance. Has anyone done this before, and what kind would you recommend?

Ron the Bus Nut also usually has some VIP steering wheels in stock. No idea how his prices compare.
What is the advantage of going to a smaller steering wheel?
I sent you an email asking for the shaft diameter and spline count. I have one I bought from Dick Wright that doesn't fit my Eagle. It's pretty nice and real cheap.

We bought one from VIP and were very happy with the product, price and service. A new non-leather one was only about $50. I think the leather was about double or so, and you could see if there are seconds as mentioned above. They can also help you make sure you get the right one. The Gillig column we have required a Mack steering wheel. The Peterbuilt type that would have fit our original wheel, handles the horn situation differently.
Hello all
I drove a bus with one of those modern steering wheels all day five days a week. They turn my hands black spinning those things all day. I prefer the old white hard steering wheel in my MC-5 anyday. That said I would be glad to purchase anyones steering wheel from an MC-5. I will pay you what you have in the new one if your old one is decent.

I was known to have the cleanest bus in the district it was an obsession both inside and out. The wheel was cleaned everyday. There is something in that material that just rubs me the wrong way. Other drivers did not have the problem just me.
Anyway a free modern steering wheel just send me your old crack free nasty white huge ugly belly rubbing wheel and I will pay you for your new one. ;D
Yup, I'm no fan of the new material covered stock wheels either.
Once they start to go, there's no amount of cleaning that will do the job.
Turned a bunch of hotel towels black in the process of trying....
I'll take an old fashioned hard material steering wheel any day. The thin rimmed white GM wheel especially my favorite in a manual steering application, let the under side ridges rub your ring as it unwinds through your hands....
