Title: Help??? V730 won't shift?
Post by: randsgmc5302 on April 28, 2009, 04:30:06 PM
67 GMC with v730 Allison Transmission air shifter and it won't engage.
The air shifter is working.
The shift rod is moving.
Fluid is all normal.
What else should I look for before I pull the pan?
This is the first time I have tried to move it since my trip to Daytona in March when I backed it into the driveway and parked it.
No problems at that time that I noticed at all.
Thanks Much,
Randy

Before you pull anything I would warm it up real well, put it in farward gear and bring the rpm up to about 800 and hold it there until it moves, my VS2-8 will do the same thing after sitting for a long spell, I think all the fluid runs to the pan and it needs to be brought back up to pressure, then shift it back and forth. That works for me every time.>>>Dan

I've already tried this a few times and it just actually seems like its still in neutral, it just feels like it won't engage at all.

Then the next thing is to replace the outside filter ( spin-on) you should have one, work from the easy stuff (less$$$$$) to the harder stuf.>>>Dan
