The dog is a pedigreed Manchester Terrier Toy. I own one and her mate is a Manchester Terrier Standard. Possibly the most under rated canine in the Kingdom of Canines. It is the second most cross bred dog...the greyhound is the most. Greyhound for speed and stamina and the MT for fight and fire. Every black and tan breed you see has MT in it blood line somewhere. The Rot used to be a brown dog when Hannibal took them across the alps. All Dobies have the blood of one MT(half) Bitch named Candy. First known to be a fixed breed in the 15 hundreds and referred to as the Black and Tan Terrier from Manchester. That is in the Oxford Lib in the first known book of canine breeds.
Dogs are interesting to read about...for me. The Manchester has a rich history. The Dobie is a good read and the Weimareiner might be the best dog story ever told.
Cheers,
John
So, nobody has a handle on the pedegree of the three guys?
John
I dunno who the guys are but that sure is one smelly dog.
JohnEd, I must know, is my rat terrier part rat or from rat England. LOL. Please do not mention this to My long gone grandfather and father as they were both born in the UK. I was the old fool at Jacks with the fat little ratty. I live on a rural property and there is nothing that She will not attempt to run off. Much bigger heart than @$#. Cheers ,John
The only person who would know that dogs smells is the one holding it
So we have identified the dog and the dog holder and neither was a greyhound

John,
Remember that part about the Manchester being the second most cross bred canine? Well, you make a Rat Terrier by crossing a Manchester with a short hair Fox Terrier. The outcome is "usually" a dog that looks like a purebred Manchester Toy in the head but has the "square" body of the fox and every other Terrier except the Manchester, but also has a white and black coated, mostly, body. If your girl has no white on her she is either a throw back to the Manchester blood or, and this is most probable, she is a Manchester that was passed off as a Rat Terrier. The Rat was only recently recognized as a "True" Breed. The Manchester had the nickname of "Rat Terrier" partly because the breed holds the worlds record for number of rats killed in pit competition. All Terriers are "ratters" I am told. The name of the canine category come from the Latin Terra as in terrafirma and means "dirt or digger" of rodents and such.
Thank you for sharing your Bitch. What is her name? Her attitude is exactly what can be expected from nearly any Terrier breed. Also, a Manchester is aloof with people and makes up slowly and that involves food, treats and ball throwing. The only Terrier breed that is friendly with other dogs...usually.
Cheers.
John
The smart one that rants is holding the smart one that barks owned by the smart one talking to the smart one. There, all done. All the Best, M&C
John Ed, My ratty has no tail, not even a bump and is black and white patches with black spots on her skin and a little brown streak on Her muzzle. I bought her in a flea market on a cold day, I made the mistake of picking her up,She ducked inside of My coat and I was hooked. I named Her Lacey which is My last name. She is a bus nut also so this is not really off thread,LOL. John
