Well, I finally got around to starting up the coach today. After sitting since last October my newly rebuilt 8-92 fired up right away. Good! So I decided to back it out of the shop and maybe take it for a spin. As I was backing out, I was watching the driveway and apparently I was leaving a trail of drops of some liquid. Not Good! I quickly returned the coach back in the shop and went back to the engine and noticed fuel dripping from a fitting supplying fuel to the left bank. A brass adapter from pipe thread to flare had a crack all along the side. Curious that there was not a leak in the system when I put it away and now one simply developed.
I don't have a problem with changing the fitting, but will I lose prime by disconnecting the line to change the fitting? Will it help to close the valves on each side of the fuel filter?
Thanks, Iver.
Iver,
I changed a similar fitting on our 8V71 the other day (on the right cylinder). I picked up the new fitting and had it ready. I started the engine let it run about 1 minute and shut it off. I removed the line, changed the fitting, re-connected the line and immediately started the engine back up. It never missed a lick. YMMV
Over the years, I have replaced several brass fittings that have cracked. I think this occurs due to the fittings being overtightened and fatigue in time. Jack
Thanks Jack,
I'll give it a try.
Iver.
