Title: AGM battery
Post by: Ray D on April 04, 2009, 04:04:21 PM
I want to use AGM batteries to start my 8V92TA.  I find battery comparisons tricky and not apples to apples.  Does anyone know if the red optima batteries would work?  It is rated:

MCA                   1000 amps
CCA                   800 amps
capacity             50ah (C/20)
reserve capacity  BCI:  100 minutes  (25amp discharge to 10.5 volts)

Thanks,
Ray

If you have a 12V starter, 3 will work well, if you have a 24v starter you'll have to use 4.  Always look at the CCA since that is rated at 0 degrees F.  In warm weather you could get by with two.  I have two 950CCA size 31 Interstates that work well.  But I also have a jumper solenoid that I can activate from the drivers seat to have my two Lifeline AGM 8D's help out.  I have started the engine just on the AGM batteries when the starting batteries were dead one time.  Suggest you also get the jumper solenoid-can use it to charge the deep cycle batteries while driving.  Good Luck, TomC
